GIRLS TENNIS: Thomas Jefferson dominates Monett invite

MONETT, Mo. — With the champion in all four brackets, the Thomas Jefferson Cavaliers won the Monett Invitational girls tennis tournament in dominant fashion on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers went 12-0 in the four brackets at the event and finished with 24 points. Lamar was a distant second with 13 points.

Thomas Jefferson’s Allison Ding won the No. 1 singles bracket, while teammate Jeanna Jeyaraj won the No. 2 singles bracket.

Thomas Jefferson’s Esther Yang and Kyla Yang took first at No. 1 doubles, while the Cavaliers’ duo of Warda Morsy and Mayson Solum won the No. 2 doubles bracket.

At No. 1 singles, Ding beat Reeds Spring’s Rylie Lacy 8-0 in the opening round before knocking off Lamar’s Chloe Vaughn 8-0 in the semifinals. 

In the title match, Ding defeated Monett’s Lizzie Smith 8-3.

At No. 2 singles, Jeyaraj defeated Clever’s Alina Nalivayko 8-0 and Lamar’s Emma Forst 8-0 to reach the title match.

Jeyaraj defeated Monett’s Vayla Smith 8-0 in the championship match.

At No. 1 doubles, Yang-Yang defeated Monett’s Serenity Laning-Emma Parrigon 8-2, Clever’s Ireland Jones-Baillie McClanahan 8-1 and Lamar’s Alyssa Mitchell-Chelsey O’Sullivan 8-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Morsy-Solum beat Nevada’s Lailee Chadd-Molly Russell 8-0, Monett’s Ruby Smith-Valery Moncivaiz 8-2 and Lamar’s Elliana Griffith-Brenna Morey 8-2.

Nevada’s Hennessy Brown took third place at No. 1 singles and Lamar’s Forst was third at No. 2 singles.

Carthage’s Claire Giett was the consolation champion at No. 2 singles. Carthage’s Aneidy Garza-Emma Seedorf took fifth at No. 2 doubles.
