SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Carthage beats McDonald County; Neosho falls

CARTHAGE 2, MCDONALD COUNTY 1

CARTHAGE, Mo. — McDonald County scored in the first inning before Carthage tied the game with a run in the third before taking the lead for good with another single tally in the last of the fifth inning on the way to the win.

Addie Wallace earned the win after allowing one unearned run on five hits and two strikeouts in seven innings.

Dakota O’Brien took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts in six innings.

After McDonald County scored on a sacrifice fly from O’Brien in the top of the first, Carthage tied it up in third inning after Wallace doubled to lead off the frame before Lexa Youngblood doubled to left to bring home the run.

Youngblood gave the Tigers the 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when she singled to center to bring home Avyn Willis, who singled to lead off the inning before stealing second and moving to third on a passed ball.

Carthage is at Willard on Thursday.

McDonald County (5-9) is at Cassville on Thursday.

 

KICKAPOO 4, NEOSHO 2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Kickapoo scored single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth innings to fuel a win over Neosho on Wednesday.

Allison Scott earned the win after allowing two runs on eight hits, two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings. Carleigh Kinnaird took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits, four walks and 11 strikeouts in six innings.

Autumn Kinnaird tripled and scored two runs for Neosho at the plate, while Kynden Smith had three hits and an RBI. 

Neosho (11-4) is at Branson on Thursday.
