SOFTBALL: Joplin sweeps road twinbill to make it nine straight wins

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. — Joplin softball earned wins over Rogersville and West Plains on Saturday for a twinbill sweep on the road.

With the pair of victories, Joplin improves to 15-2 on the season. The Eagles are currently riding a nine-game winning streak and host Republic on Tuesday at the JHS Athletic Complex.

 

JOPLIN 15, ROGERSVILLE 8

Joplin hung crooked numbers up four times against Rogersville on the way to the win.

The Eagles took the lead with a five-run second inning before scoring four more in the third to push the lead to 9-1 after three full. Rogersville plated three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 9-6 with two innings to plate. Joplin scored four runs in the sixth to essentially seal the win before both teams traded two tallies in the seventh inning.

Ava Wolf started and earned the win after allowing one run on two hits, two walks and a strikeout in three innings. Caelyn Bobski allowed six runs, four earned, on nine hits, two walks and three strikeouts in four relief innings.

Kalee Gauldin took the loss after allowing 15 runs on 14 hits, 12 walks and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Joplin finished with nine players recording a hit, with Maria Loum leading the way with four hits, including a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Abby Lowery doubled twice, had a team-high four RI and a run scored, while Bailey Ledford had two hits, including a triple, to go along with a team-high four runs scored and an RBI.

Joplin’s Kirsten McMillen doubled and had two RBI, while Riley Kelly had a hit and drove in one. Ashley Phillips and Jadyn Pankow each had a hit and scored two runs.

Peyton Meadows walked twice and scored twice.

 

JOPLIN 7, WEST PLAINS 2

Joplin and West Plains traded runs early only for the Eagles to ultimately pull away from Zizzers to complete the Saturday sweep.

The Eagles and Zizzers traded single tallies in the first before Joplin scored twice in the top of the second, with West Plains answering back with a run in the bottom. The Eagles closed the game with the rest of the scoring, touching home once in the third, twice in the fifth and once more in the seventh inning.

Jill McDaniel earned the win in the circle for Joplin after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits, four walks and eight strikeouts in a complete seven innings of work.

Allyssa Joyner took the loss for the Zizzers after allowing seven runs, five earned, on 12 hits and two strikeouts in seven innings.

Kelly picked up an RBI for Joplin in the first inning when she doubled to right field to score Lowery. West Plains tied the game in the bottom half with a run scoring on an error.

McDaniel helped her own cause in the second inning with an RBI double right before another run scored on a groundout by Bailey Ledford later in the inning.

The Zizzers cut the lead to one in the bottom of the second, but that would be as close as they would get to the lead. Joplin’s Izzy Yust singled home Lowery in the third inning and Libby Munn hit her fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning with a two-run shot to left. Kelly picked up another RBI in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

Lowery and Yust each doubled and had three hits at the plate, with Lowery scoring three times and Yust scoring once and driving in one. Munn homered on the way to two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Ledford had a hit and drove in a run.
