VOLLEYBALL: Webb City takes 2nd at Hillcrest tourney

The Webb City High School volleyball team settled for the runner-up plaque at the Hillcrest Slamfest on Saturday.

The Cardinals went 4-1-1 at the event, falling to Lebanon in the championship match.

In pool play, Webb City defeated Waynesville 25-9, 25-12, split two sets with Camdenton (25-12, 23-25), beat Willard 25-18, 25-19 and edged Hillcrest 25-22, 25-23.

In bracket play, Webb City topped Republic 25-21, 23-25, 25-22 before Lebanon defeated the Cardinals 25-21, 25-23 for the tourney championship. 

For the tourney, Kate Brownfield recorded 39 kills, while Brenda Lawrence added 34 kills. Aubree Lassiter had 33 kills, while Jaeli Rutledge contributed 15 kills. 

Kyah Sanborn handed out 114 assists from the setter position.

Sophia Crane had a team-high 72 digs, while Brownfield had 30 digs. Jenna Noel added 28 digs, while Lawrence had 24 digs and Sanborn added 22 digs.

Noel and Brownfield served seven aces apiece. Lassiter had six blocks and Rutledge added five blocks.

Webb City (6-2-1) hosts Bentonville on Monday night inside the Cardinal Dome.
