BOYS SWIMMING: Carthage takes 4th at Belton Invitational

The Carthage High School boys swimming team finished fourth overall out of 20 teams at the Belton Invitational over the weekend. 

The top four teams were Park Hill (358), Blue Springs South (327), Grain Valley (319) and Carthage (304).

Tigers coach Braden McBride noted many of his team’s swimmers recorded personal best times or season best times at the meet.

Competing in the Gold division, the Tigers won three events.

Carthage junior Braxton McBride took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.36 seconds and senior Kellen Frieling won the 100 backstroke in 54.8 seconds.

The Tigers won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:28, with McBride, Will Wright, Frieling and Aydan Nye competing.

Carthage’s 200-yard medley relay team of Frieling, McBride, Wright and Maveric Allphin placed second in 1:45.

Wright finished second in the 200 IM in 2:05, McBride was the runner-up in the 50 free in 22.38, 

Frieling and Nye placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle.

Wright took third in the 500 freestyle, Noah Blackford placed fourth in the 100 backstroke and Allphin was fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

The CHS team of Daryl Martin, Noah Blackford, Ben Rogers and Allphin placed seventh in the 200 freestyle relay.

Carthage will compete at Monett on Tuesday.
