SOFTBALL: Joplin hosts Pryor, Webb City in doubleheader

JOPLIN 2, PRYOR 0 (9 INNINGS)

Ava Wolf was dominant in the circle until Riley Kelly hit a walk-off home run to send Joplin past Pryor in the first game on Saturday. 

Wolf earned the win after pitching nine shutout innings, scattering two hits, walking two and striking out five to earn the complete-game win.

Joplin’s Jadyn Pankow reached base with a one-out single to left before Kelly smacked a home run to left before being met at the plate by her teammates in celebration. 

 

WEBB CITY 4, PRYOR 2 (8 INNINGS)

Pryor scored a run in the last of the seventh to send the game to extras before Webb City scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to seal the win in the Cardinals’ first of two games at Joplin on Saturday.

Laney Taylor earned the win in relief after allowing one run on five hits, a walk and three strikeouts in four innings of work. Karsyn Cahoon earned the save, allowing one hit and striking out one in an inning of work. 

Kylee Sargent walked to lead off the eighth inning before Alex Maturino homered to center field two batters later to put Webb City out in front for good.

Kylee Sargent had a hit, walked twice and scored twice. Abby Sargent had a hit and scored a run. Maturino had a hit, three RBI and scored a run.

 

WEBB CITY 14, JOPLIN 10

Joplin outscored Webb City 8-4 through the first three innings before the Cardinals outscored the Eagles 10-3 in the final four innings on the way to a win on Saturday.

Webb City used a four spot in the top of the seventh to break a 10-all tie.

Wynn started the game and came back in on relief to earn the win after allowing four runs on six hits, two walks and a strikeout in three total innings.

Caelyn Bobski started and took a no decision after allowing eight runs, three earned, on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings, while Ava Wolf took the loss in relief after allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits, two walks and a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.

Webb City totaled 14 runs on 13 hits with Kylee Sargent tripling on the way to three hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Abby Sargent also tripled, finished with two hits, scored twice and drove in one. Jensyn Pickett homered and finished with two hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Riley Hanes doubled twice and scored three runs.

Joplin totaled 10 runs on 17 hits, with Bailey Ledford and Kelly each coming away with three hits. Ledford had an RBI and scored a run and Kelly also scored a run. Abby Lowery tripled and homered to finish with three RBI and two runs scored. Pankow had two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in one. Wolf doubled and had three RBI. Ashley Phillips had two hits and scored twice, while Maria Loum had two hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in a run.

Webb City hosts Carthage on Tuesday.

Joplin (9-6) is at Republic on Tuesday.
