SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Webb City, Carl Junction earn road wins in different fashion

WEBB CITY 11, ROLLA 5

ROLLA, Mo. — Webb City trailed 5-1 heading into the final inning before rallying with 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning to fuel a win over Rolla on Wednesday.

With the win Webb City improves to 3-1.

Makenzie Wynn started and earned a no-decision after allowing five runs on eight hits, four walks and a strikeout in five innings. Laney Taylor earned the win after allowing two hits over two scoreless relief innings, walking one. 

Brystol Klossner took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits, three walks and four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Kylee Sargent had two hits and scored twice, while Sydney Strickland doubled on the way to two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Abby Sargent and Addison Brown each had two hits and scored a run. Jensyn Pickett had a double, three RBI and scored a run. Kyley Senter doubled, drove in a run and scored once.

Webb City takes part in the Paige Neal/Christina Freeman Invitational hosted by Joplin High School over the weekend at the Joplin Athletic Complex. Webb City opens play with a 10 a.m. matchup against Seneca on Friday.

 

CARL JUNCTION 17, HILLCREST 0

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Carl Junction scored six runs in the second inning and added an 11-run third inning to defeat Hillcrest in three innings on Wednesday.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-1 on the young season.

Hannah Cole earned the win in the circle after pitching three scoreless innings on two hits and four strikeouts.

Mya Frillman took the loss after allowing 16 runs on eight hits, nine walks and a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings. 

Kadence Hunt led Carl Junction at the plate with a 3-for-4 game that included a home run, a team-high five RBI and two runs scored. Ryleigh Palmer doubled on the way to two hits, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored. Kiley Spencer finished with two hits, two RBI and scored a run. Kinley Spindler had a hit, scored twice and drove in one.

Frillman and Ishmari Hamahe-Martinez had the lone hits for Hillcrest. 

Carl Junction is at Webb City on Sept. 5.
