With three golfers finishing in the top six, the host Eagles claimed the first place plaque at the Joplin Invitational on a blustery Thursday at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club.

Joplin finished on top of the team standings with a four-person score of 337.

Carl Junction and Carthage both finished with identical scores of 345, with the Bulldogs claiming second place due to a tie-breaker comparing each team’s fifth golfer.

Webb City finished fourth in the standings with a 348. Rounding out the team standings were Logan-Rogersville (365), Seneca (404), Joplin B (405) and Lamar (439).

Nevada’s Owen Swearingen.

Joplin’s Harry Satterlee and Nevada’s Owen Swearingen both carded a 7-over-par 79 to finish tied for the top spot after 18 holes.

Satterlee shot a 38 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine, while Swearingen, a Missouri State recruit, had a 41 on the front and a 38 on the back.

There was a sudden-death playoff hole to determine medalist honors.

The two golfers started on hole No. 18 and both made par, forcing another hole.

The two then moved to hole No. 1, a par 4. Both hit the fairway. Swearingen then hit the green, leaving himself about a 25-foot putt for birdie.

Satterlee’s approach shot skipped across the green and ended up out of bounds, forcing a re-hit. Satterlee’s next shot ended up on the fringe.

After Satterlee’s chip shot came up two feet short, Swearingen needed a three-putt or less to win. His first putt ended up two feet short, but he converted the next putt to earn first place honors.

Carthage’s Britt Coy (40-40) and Joplin’s Wyatt Satterlee (41-39) tied for third place with identical scores of 80, while Carl Junction’s Jack Spencer carded 82 (42-40) to take fifth place.

Tying for sixth place were Joplin’s Hobbs Campbell, Webb City’s duo of Braxten Cahoon and Levi Lassiter and Carl Junction’s Zach Wrensch. All four players carded 85.

Carthage’s Owen Derryberry, Rogersville’s Tyler Davis and Webb City’s Keegon Dill all shot 87 and tied for ninth place.

Carl Junction’s Noah Williams and Carthage’s Ben Nicholas carded 88 and tied for 13th.

Joplin B’s Ethan Satterlee was 15th with an 89, while Carl Junction’s Jacob Teeter, Carthage’s Max Templeman and Rogersville’s Bryce Marshall tied for 16th after shooting 90.

Webb City’s Josh Howard placed 19th with a 91.

Seneca’s top performer was Eli Olson, who carded 98 and tied for 25th.

Also competing for Joplin’s A team were Ian Surbrugg (93) and Dylan Bozarth (100), while Gabe Deleon (92), Miles Hogan (110), Cash Tyson (114) and Taylor McMillian (119) also competed for Joplin’s B team.

The invite was played on a cold, windy day (48 degrees, 25-35 mph wind gusts).

Area golfers will compete at the Horton Smith Invitational on Monday at Schifferdecker Golf Course. Tee time is 8:30 a.m.
