BRANSON, Mo. — The Webb City softball team remained undefeated in 2020 with a 6-0 win over Branson on Thursday.
The Cardinals are now 11-0 overall and 4-0 in Central Ozark Conference play. Branson dropped to 4-6 and 0-3 in the COC.
Haidyn Berry earned the win in the circle and improved to 10-0. She struck out eight and scattered six hits.
Hannah Wells had three hits for the Cardinals, while Bri Batson added two hits.
The Cardinals got on the board in the second inning, as Shae’lee Key reached on an error before Wells delivered an RBI single into left field.
Webb City extended its lead with four runs in the fourth. Kaylyn Gilbert and Wells both singled before Batson and Ripley Shanks drove in runs with base hits.
Later in the inning, Emma Welch added a two-run single to give the Cardinals a 5-0 cushion.
The Webb City defense turned a double play in the bottom of the fifth to thwart a Branson rally. The Pirates stranded a pair of runners in the sixth.
In the seventh, Batson recorded an RBI single to give the Cardinals a six-run lead.
The Pirates threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but once again, Berry and the Cardinals got out of the jam unscathed.
Branson’s Peyton Bonsey took the loss. She gave up 12 hits and five earned runs.
Webb City will compete at the Winnetonka Tournament this weekend.
