VOLLEYBALL: Cavaliers take fifth at Southwest tourney

The Thomas Jefferson Cavaliers defeated the hosts 25-19, 25-11 in the fifth-place match of the Southwest Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
In the tourney finale, Nico Carlson led the Cavaliers with five kills, while Mary Nguyen had five assists and four kills and Macie Shifferd had seven digs and three kills.
Gabbi Hiebert and Lannah Grigg contributed three kills apiece. Maggie Sutton and Grigg served three aces apiece.
In other action at the tourney, Thomas Jefferson defeated Purdy 25-11, 25-9 and split with Wheaton (25-16, 24-26). The Cavaliers suffered losses to Spokane (25-23, 25-22) and Pierce City (25-16, 25-19).
