GIRLS GOLF: Joplin takes third at COC tourney; Carthage’s Gaddis is top local individual

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Joplin finished third in the team standings at the 2022 Central Ozark Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Monday at Horton Smith Golf Course

With three golfers in the top 10, Willard claimed the team championship with a four-person score of 358. The Tigers won the conference title for the second straight season. 

Ozark was the runner-up with 373, while Joplin was third with 381.

Carl Junction and Nixa tied for fourth place with identical scores of 387. Branson (388), Republic (425) and Webb City (433) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Carthage does not have a full squad. 

Individually, Ozark’s Josey Roberts was the COC champion with a 72, while Willard’s Kylee Hopper was the runner-up with a 77.

Carthage’s Shay Gaddis finished third with a personal-best score of 78 and Joplin’s Kenna Haley tied for fourth with Nixa’s Macy Pierce with an 85. 

Branson’s Maci Rogers placed sixth with an 86, Republic’s Izzy Benson took seventh with an 88 and Carthage’s Addie Foust tied for eighth with a 91, a new personal best. Willard’s Aubrey Foster tied Foust for eighth, and her teammate Sara White placed 10th with a 92. 

The top 10 golfers earn all-conference recognition.

Carl Junction’s Rylee Sprague tied for 11th place with a 93, Joplin’s Lindsey Belnap was 13th with a 94 and Carl Junction’s Olivia Teeter tied for 14th with a 95.

Webb City’s Jacie Crouch and Carl Junction’s Anna Burch tied for 17th with scores of 97, while Joplin’s Chloe Friend finished 20th with a 100.

Carl Junction’s Alex Teeter and Joplin’s Drew Yockey tied for 23rd, while Webb City’s Avry Hodson tied for 25th. 

Carl Junction’s Jasmine Woerner tied for 27th, Webb City’s Langlee Walker finished 32nd, Joplin’s Taylor Colson was 39th, Webb City’s Emerson Boulware finished 40th and Carthage’s Brooke Detherage was 41st.

Local golfers head to district tournaments later this week. 

Joplin is hosting the Class 4 District 3 tournament on Thursday at Schifferdecker Golf Course. 

Carl Junction and Webb City will be among the teams competing at Friday’s Class 3 District 3 tournament at the Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield.
