Swimming: Joplin Eagles, Carthage Tigers see success at Monett

Athletes from Joplin and Carthage had successful showings at the Monett Duals swim meet on Tuesday at the Monett Area YMCA. The host Cubs and the Nevada Tigers also fared well.

JOPLIN RESULTS
Joplin’s Ben Wardlow took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 9 seconds. Wardlow was also fourth in the 200 freestyle.
The Eagles finished second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40, with Jacob Glenn, Zane Newman, Jonah Hensley and Wardlow competing. Camdenton was one second faster in the event.
Joplin finished seventh in the 200 medley relay, with Glenn, Colin Vermillion, Ian Vermillion and Jackson Mordica competing.
Glenn placed second in the 500 freestyle and Hensley finished second in the 100 freestyle.
Zane Reavley placed third in the 200 freestyle and also finished seventh in the 100 backstroke, while Ian Vermillion took third in the 200 individual medley.
Joplin’s Zane Newman placed fourth in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 50 free, while Colin Vermillion took fifth in the 200 free and eighth in the breaststroke. Mordica was fifth in the 200 IM and Devin Lawson was seventh in the 200 free.

CARTHAGE RESULTS
Carthage’s Ezekiel Ramirez (2:24) and Will Wallace (2:30) finished first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley. Eli Cox was fourth in the same event.
Carthage’s 400 freestyle relay team of Wallace, Aaron Vang, Landon White and Gibson Huelat finished third in 4:26. Lebanon (3:53) and Monett (4:24) were first and second.
The Tigers finished fifth in the 200 medley relay, with Kellen Frieling, Ramirez, White and Cox competing. Carthage’s B team was sixth, with Noah Blackford, Huelat, Vang and Wallace swimming.
Carthage was fifth in the 200 freestyle relay, with Ramirez, Frieling, Cox and Wallace swimming.
Also for the Tigers, Huelat finished fourth in the 500 free, with White taking sixth. White was fifth in the 100 butterfly, with Vang seventh.
Frieling was sixth in the backstroke, Blackford took eighth in the 200 free, with Vang and Declan O’Brien ninth and 10th in the same event.

NEVADA RESULTS
Nevada standout Ben Hines touched the wall first in both the 50 freestyle (22.04) and the 100 freestyle (49.65). Nevada’s Cody Leung also won two events, the 200 freestyle in 1:52 and the 100 backstroke in 56.77.
Nevada won the 200 medley relay in 1:49, with Leung, Tretin Raney, Hines and Karter Evans competing.

MONETT RESULTS
The Cubs’ second-place 400 freestyle relay team featured Andrew Kranz, Tristen Ostertag, Ryan Goodson and Andrew Dixon.
Monett’s Ryan Goodson won the diving competition, while Dixon took third in the 100 free. Monett’s Matthew Fillinger was fourth in both the 50 free and 100 backstroke.
