Cross Country: Joplin boys take fifth at Ray-Pec invite

PECULIAR, Mo. — In a field of 23 teams, the Joplin High School boys cross country team finished fifth in the team standings at Saturday’s Raymore-Peculiar Invitational.
Rock Bridge (43) and St. Joseph Central (76) were the top two teams, with Liberty (92), Rockhurst (158) and Joplin (189) rounding out the top five.
Joplin’s Hobbs Campbell finished 25th in 17:12. Also for the Eagles, Ian Horton was 41st, Nicholas Horton took 42nd, Zaben Barnes was 44th and Evan Matlock took 47th.
Ashton Ventura (115th), Max Russell (122nd) and Patrick Beranek (140th) also competed for the Eagles.
There were 203 runners in the boys race.
In the girls race, Joplin’s Alexandra Carson finished 19th in 20:42 and Jennalee Dunn was 21st with a time of 20:45. Joplin’s Allie Keizer was 45th and Sage Mitchell was 48th.
Also competing were Mairi Beranek (136th), Cylee Gilreath (137th), Jackaline Triplett (149th).
Joplin’s girls were ninth in the team standings (266). Rock Bridge (71) and St. Teresa’s Academy (76) were the top two teams.

CARTHAGE RESULTS
Fresh off their own invite, the Carthage Tigers also competed at the event.
Mariques Strickland finished 21st in the boys race with a time of 17:10.
Miguel Solano was 55th, Joseph Wyrick took 58th, Malcolm Robertson finished 70th, Richard Contreras was 78th and Coltyn Herrera was 81st.
Ty Lewis (119th), Landen Schrader (143rd), Caleb Fewin (163rd) and Joel Pugh (167th) also competed.
Carthage finished ninth in the boys team standings.
On the girls side, Kimberly Hernandez was 96th (23:00) and Lauren Wilson took 99th (23:09).
Also running for the Tigers were Hadley McBride (111th), Morelia Reyes (138th), Diana Pichardo (142nd) and Lilian Vasquez-Perez (171st). Carthage’s girls finished 18th in the standings.
There were 21 full teams and 179 runners in the girls event.
