CASSVILLE, Mo.— Carl Junction suffered a 3-2 loss to Cassville in prep softball action on Monday.
The game was tied 2-2 after five innings.
The Wildcats scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on Ashlynn Bryan’s RBI single to right field, and the Bulldogs were unable to answer in the seventh.
Leadoff batter Sammie Sims went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Bulldogs (1-1), while Allison Plumlee had one hit and drove in both of her team’s runs. Both Sims and Plumlee hit doubles.
Saedra Allen took the loss in the circle, but she only allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Allen struck out eight and walked none.
Cassville’s Isabelle Edwards was the winning pitcher. She struck out seven. Edwards also had two hits for the Wildcats.
Plumlee’s grounder drove in a run in the first, but Cassville’s Edwards tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom half.
The Wildcats led 2-1 when Plumlee’s sac fly tied the game in the top of the third.
The Bulldogs were unable to score in the final four frames.
Carl Junction will be among the teams competing at the Paige Neal/Christina Freeman tournament this weekend at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
