PREP BASEBALL: Bulldogs start fast and cruise to win over Seneca behind a big day at the plate from Alex baker

SENECA, Mo. — Carl Junction scored eight runs in the first two innings and added a six spot in the fifth on the way to a 14-1 win in five innings over Seneca on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (16-8) scored four runs in the first and four runs in the second to take command while keeping the Indians (13-11) off the scoreboard through the first four innings. Carl Junction took complete control in the fifth after scoring six runs, with Seneca breaking through on the scoreboard with a run in the fifth before the game was ended via run rule. 

Carson Johnson earned the win for the Bulldogs after allowing one unearned run on two hits, two walks and six strikeouts in a five-inning, complete-game performance.

Andrew Sampson took the loss after allowing 10 runs, two earned, on seven hits, four walks and three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. 

Alex Baker got the scoring started in the first inning when he singled to left to plate Drew Beyer, who singled earlier in the inning. Dylan Eck reached on an error that also brought home Baker to make the score 2-0. Two batters later, Kyler Perry singled to right to score Eck, and Dalton Mills wrapped the scoring in the first with an RBI groundout.

Baker came up again in the second and again put more runs on the scoreboard after connecting for a three-run home run to left field to make the score 7-0. Mills added a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.

The sixth inning’s scoring got underway on a Beyer single through the right side, with Noah Southern following with an RBI single of his own to make the score 10-0. Baker made it three straight Bulldog hits to bring in a run with a two-run single to center field. Jaxsyn Mackney finished off the scoring in the inning with a two-run double to right two batters later to make the score 14-0.

Baker and Beyer had three hits each to lead the way for Carl Junction. Baker homered, had a game-high six RBI and scored twice. Beyer scored twice and drove in one. Southern had one hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Eck had a hit and scored twice, while Mackey had a double and drove in two.

Carl Junction is at Nixa on Monday.
