MINK LEAGUE: Joplin tops Sedalia to close the weekend

Joplin trampled Sedalia with an 8-1 victory in front of a home crowd Sunday night at Joe Becker Stadium.

Joplin scored early and often, securing their knockout lead with a homer in the bottom of the eighth inning while giving up minimal hits and walks. The Bombers failed to score until the ninth inning before Joplin put the game away.

ON THE MOUND

Caden Bressler earned the win for Joplin after pitching six scoreless innings on three hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

Grant Burson took the loss after giving up one run in five innings with three hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. 

GAME ACTION

In the bottom of the first inning, Garret Chun doubled to left field before advancing to third base on a passed ball. Chun then scored on a passed ball, scoring Joplin’s first run of the game.

After four scoreless innings, Joplin secured its lead with two runs scored in the bottom of the sixth. Jaret Nelson walked to first, then advanced to second on an error by the pitcher. Jason Lazo pushed Nelson to third with a sac fly and Karson Green sent him home with a single to left field. Hill later scored on a ground ball by Ethan Krueger. 

In the bottom of the eighth, Chun singled to left field, sending Green home and advancing Kreuger to third base. With bases loaded later in the inning, Kolton Reynolds stepped to the plate and homered to clear the bases. 

Sedalia scored just once, unearned, when Reid Plum grounded out to second base in the top of the ninth.

AT THE PLATE

Reynolds finished with four RBI on two hits and one walk, adding a run. Krueger earned one RBI on a hit and two strikeouts, also scoring a run. Chun finished with one RBI on two hits with two runs scored. Green scored once and earned one RBI on two walks and a hit.

Plum earned an RBI for the Bombers on three walks.

ON DECK

The Outlaws begin a three-game series against Nevada at 7 p.m. on Monday night at Joplin’s Joe Becker Stadium. Joplin will finish the series on the road before returning to face Jefferson City at home Thursday night.
