BASEBALL: Webb City’s Stowell tosses no-hitter at Hillcrest; Cards get back to .500

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Gavin Stowell tossed a six-inning no-hitter, and the Webb City Cardinals earned a 10-0 run-rule victory at Hillcrest on Wednesday.

A senior lefty who has signed with Highland Community College, Stowell struck out 10, walked three and did not allow a hit in six frames. Stowell threw 80 pitches, with a first-pitch strike to 14 of 20 batters. 

The non-conference clash was scoreless until the Cardinals pushed across three runs in the fourth, six more in the fifth and one in the sixth. Drew Vonder Haar drove in the 10th run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly in what was his first varsity RBI. 

The game ended after the bottom of the sixth due to the run-rule. 

Webb City recorded eight hits.

Jeremiah Leaming went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cy Darnell, Kenley Hood, Aidan Brock, Cade Wilson and Brantley Carter had one hit apiece.

Eric Fitch, William Hayes, Wilson, Darnell, Leaming, Hood, Brock and Vonder Haar all drove in runs. Leaming and Wilson both scored twice.

Hillcrest’s Kannon Brayfield was charged with the loss. He gave up nine runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four in 4 1/3 innings.

Webb City is now 8-8 on the season. 

The Cardinals host Ozark at 4:30 on Thursday for a Central Ozark Conference contest at Chuck Barnes Field.
