BASEBALL: Webb City scores 10 runs in win over Springfield Catholic

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Webb City halted a three-game skid in a big way by beating Springfield Catholic 10-4 on Monday night.

The non-conference victory gives Webb City a 17-12 record with two games left in the regular season.

Down 2-1 after the first inning, the Cardinals scored twice in both the second and third innings before a four-run fifth blew the game open.

Webb City added an insurance run in the seventh. 

The Cardinals recorded 12 hits, with seven players contributing.

Drew Vonder Haar went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Christian Brock, Kaylor Darnell and William Hayes had two hits apiece.

Shaun Hunt homered, while Brock and Vonder Haar doubled. Hunt and Darnell had two RBI apiece.

Cy Darnell and Kenley Hood had one hit apiece and both scored runs.

Kaylor Darnell was the winning pitcher. He went four innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out two.

Brett Korth pitched two innings, allowing a run on three hits. Walker Sweet tossed a scoreless inning.

Catholic’s Coleman Morrison took the loss after surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked four. 

Ben Smith and Logan Ripper homered for the Irish, while Jack Schoen had three hits.

Webb City has a pair of non-conference home games left on the schedule before the postseason begins on May 16.

Webb City hosts Kickapoo at 4:30 on Tuesday at Barnes Field. The Cardinals will entertain Frontenac, Kansas, on Thursday.
