VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Joplin, CJ, TJ, Carthage, Diamond and McAuley earn wins; Seneca and CHC in action

JOPLIN 3, MCDONALD COUNTY 0

ANDERSON, Mo. — Joplin started strong and held off McDonald County in the final two sets of a 25-12, 25-23 and 25-22 sweep over the Mustangs on Thursday.

The win improves the Eagles’ record to 3-2, while McDonald County falls to 0-5.

Janiah Vaughn had eight kills and two digs, while Raelin Calderon had five kills and two aces. Phia Vogel had 11 digs, a kill and an assist for Joplin. Adalynn Noirfalise finished 16 assists with eight aces and six digs. Lucy Erisman had six digs and two aces.

Joplin will compete at the Hillcrest Slamfest on Saturday.

McDonald County is at Mount Vernon on Tuesday.

 

CARL JUNCTION 3, AURORA 0

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction made quick work of Aurora with a 25-18, 25-18 and 25-7 win on Thursday. 

The win gives the Bulldogs an 8-1 record on the season.

Kylie Scott had seven kills and five aces in service, while Miya Carnes had 23 assists and Abigail Wilson finished with 14 digs. Karissa Chase had eight kills and three blocks. Acadia Badgley had eight kills.

Carl Junction is at Rogers, Arkansas, on Monday.

 

THOMAS JEFFERSON 3, NORTHEAST VERNON COUNTY 2

WALKER, Mo. — Thomas Jefferson earned another win after defeating Northeast Vernon County 14-25, 25-12, 23-25, 25-16 and 15-6 on Thursday.

The win improves the Cavaliers to an 8-1 record. 

Lannag Grigg led TJ with 16 kills, five aces, four digs and three assists. Gabbie Hiebert had 11 kills and 13 digs, while Macie Shifferd added 12 digs and four kills. Mary Nguyen closed with 16 assists, with Leah Studer added 11 assists. Maggie Sutton had 13 digs and Nayab Rehman had eight digs.

Thomas Jefferson hosts Lockwood on Monday. 

 

MCAULEY 3, RICH HILL 1

RICH HILL, Mo. — McAuley Catholic went on the road and rallied for a 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19 over Rich Hill on Thursday.

The win improves the Warriors’ record to 2-7-4. 

Kloee Williamson led McAuley with 11 kills, while Avery Gardner had six aces and five kills. Jadyn LaFerla had 25 assists to lead the Warriors.

McAuley hosts Exeter on Tuesday.

 

DIAMOND 3, SENECA 0

DIAMOND, Mo. — Diamond defeated Seneca 25-19, 25-22, 25-12 on Thursday.

Seneca fell to 0-4, while Diamond improved to 5-0.

Seneca’s Anna Adkins had 11 assists and two aces, while Jera Jameson compiled five kills, three blocks and two aces. Also for the Indians, Olivia Leonard had four kills, while Valencia Araujo and Ella Graham contributed six digs apiece.

“As a team, we blocked well tonight with five block-kills,” Seneca coach Rachel Ayo said. “And we served well with six aces.” 

Seneca hosts Crane on Monday. Diamond is at Neosho on Tuesday. 

 

SARCOXIE 3, COLLEGE HEIGHTS 2

College Heights Christian rallied after dropping the first two sets, but Sarcoxie rebounded to take the deciding fifth set.

The Bears defeated the Cougars 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-11.

Maddy Colin recorded 27 assists, 13 digs and five aces for the Cougars, while Bailey Peeples contributed 16 kills.

Also for CHC, Lilly Plassman had 26 assists and Katie Moss had 15 digs. 

College Heights (4-3-1) hosts Jasper on Tuesday.

 

CARTHAGE 3, PITTSBURG 0
Carthage defeated Pittsburg 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup.

Carthage’s Ava Bourgalt recorded six kills and eight digs, while Sadie Comer compiled 10 digs, nine assists and eight kills and Jaidyn Brunnert had 14 digs, 13 assists and five kills.

Also for the Tigers, Riann Schwartz contributed 11 digs, five aces and two assists, Millie Templeman had seven kills, three aces and three digs, Ella Schwartz chipped in four digs and London Shepherd contributed one kill, one block and one dig.

Carthage hosts Neosho on Monday.
