PREP VOLLEYBALL: Webb City takes second at Willard tourney

The Webb City Cardinals finished as the runner-up to the hosts at Willard High School’s Lori Endicott Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

In the tourney opener, Webb City suffered a 2-1 loss to Willard, as the Tigers beat the Cardinals 21-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Kenzie Storm had nine kills, while Brenda Lawrence, Kearston Galardo and Kate Brownfield all contributed six kills apiece. 

Kyah Sanborn handed out 24 assists. Sophia Crane had 13 digs, while Jenna Noel and Brownfield added 10 digs apiece.

Webb City defeated Logan-Rogersville 2-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-21).

Galardo had 10 kills and eight digs, while Storm and Lawrence recorded eight kills apiece. Brownfield chipped in six kills to go with seven digs. 

Sanborn had 31 assists and eight digs, while Crane and Noel led the team in digs with 14 and 12, respectively. 

Webb City split two sets with Stockton, falling 25-23 and winning 25-16.

Galardo recorded 10 kills, while Lawrence had six. 

Sanborn had 23 assists, while Crane had 10 digs. Noel and Sanborn added seven digs apiece.

The Cardinals defeated Aurora 25-23, 25-19.

Galardo had a team-high seven kills, while Storm added four kills. 

Sanborn had 12 assists, while Brownfield had five digs.

In the event’s championship match, defending Class 4 state champion Willard defeated Webb City 25-17, 25-20.

Galardo led the Cardinals with six kills and five digs. Sanborn handed out 10 assists. Noel and Brownfield had five digs apiece, while Lawrence and Sanborn chipped in four digs apiece.

Webb City is 15-11-2 ahead of Monday night’s contest with McDonald County.
