PREP SOFTBALL: Webb City suffers road loss at Nixa

NIXA, Mo. — Maddy Meierer tossed a one-hitter as Nixa defeated Webb City 9-0 in a Central Ozark Conference softball clash on Thursday.

A junior, Meierer had a perfect game with two outs and two strikes in the seventh inning before Hannah Wells singled to center and Kaylyn Gilbert reached on an error. Both runners were stranded as the Eagles recorded the final out.  

Meierer struck out 11 in the complete-game shutout.

Laney Taylor was charged with the loss. She went 3 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks. Peyton Hawkins pitched the final 2 2/3, allowing two runs on six hits.

Nixa scored twice in the first, once in the third, four times in the fourth and two in the sixth. 

Apryl Zeno went 3-for-3 with three RBI, a homer and a double. Dakota Hale, Sara Sweaney and Meierer all had two hits apiece.

Webb City is now 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the COC.

Nixa improved to 14-6 and 6-0 in conference games.

Webb City hosts Wyandotte (Okla.) on Monday and Neosho on Tuesday.
