PREP VOLLEYBALL: Thomas Jefferson takes fifth in Southwest tourney

WASHBURN, Mo. — Thomas Jefferson took part in the Southwest Volleyfest volleyball tournament at Southwest High School and came away with a fifth-place standing.

Starting in pool play, the Cavaliers earned a 25-14, 25-19 win over Verona before splitting two games with Exeter 26-24 and 28-30. Thomas Jefferson wrapped pool play with a split against the School of the Ozarks 22-25 and 25-19.

The Cavaliers ended the day with a win in three sets in the fifth-place game in a rematch with School of the Ozarks—15-25, 25-15 and 25-19.

Nico Carlson had 16 kills, eight aces and seven blocks, while Lannah Grigg finished with 28 kills, five blocks and four aces. Mary Nguyen had 25 assists, five aces and five kills, while Mayson Solum closed with 15 assists, six kills and four aces. Yasmina Mokhtar had five kills and two aces, with Nayab Rehman finishing with 18 digs. Alexis Stamps added eight kills and Maggie Sutton had four aces.

Thomas Jefferson is at Jasper on Monday.
