Softball: Webb City rolls in tourney opener, Cards pick up two wins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — What a way to begin a tournament.
Webb City rolled to a dominating 24-1 win over Oak Park in the opener of the Winnetonka Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored seven runs in the first, nine in the second and eight in the third inning. The game ended after the third inning due to the run-rule.
Everyone got into the act for the Cardinals, who scored their 24 runs on 23 hits.
Alyssa Jennings drove in five runs on two home runs, while Peyton Hawkins went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Kaylyn Gilbert drove in four runs on three hits, while Brynna Cupp, Haidyn Berry and Shae’lee Key all had three RBIs apiece.
Berry and Key also hit homers, while Gilbert had two doubles. Bri Batson and Ripley Shanks had two hits apiece. Emalee Lamar scored three runs and had one RBI, while Hannah Wells drove in one run.
Berry earned the pitching victory. She allowed one run on one hit and struck out two.

WEBB CITY 9, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 7
In Friday’s second contest, Webb City earned a 9-7 win over Blue Springs South.
Hawkins homered, scored three runs and had four RBI. Lamar drove in two runs, while Berry had three hits and Batson scored twice.
Berry was the winning pitcher. She allowed two earned runs and struck out five.
The Cardinals improved to 13-0. The tourney continues on Saturday.
