CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — McDonald County’s Lily Allman was the individual champion, while Pittsburg and Carthage were the top two teams at the Carl Junction Invitational girls golf tournament on Monday at Briarbrook Golf Course.
Allman carded a 3-over-par 75 to claim medalist honors. The Mustangs’ returning state qualifier shot a 35 on the front nine and a 40 on the back.
Allman is off to a solid start to her senior year, as she also won Joplin’s invite last week at Schifferdecker Golf Course. In 2019, Allman captured district and sectional titles before finishing 31st at the state tournament.

Pittsburg’s Samantha Maceli (77) and Hannah Holloman (80) finished second and third, respectively.
The Purple Dragons finished with a team score of 384, four strokes better than shorthanded Carthage. Webb City (410) and Joplin (414) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the team standings.

CARTHAGE RESULTS
Carthage junior Hailey Bryant carded an 83 (41-42) and finished fourth. Bryant is a returning state qualifier who was the runner-up at last year’s Central Ozark Conference tourney.
Also for the Tigers, Shaely Garrison was seventh with a 95 and Caitlin Derryberry finished 10th with a 99. Ava Lacey finished 16th and Aubri Fisher tied for 21st.
“I was very pleased,” Tigers coach Lowell Catron said. “Caitlin Derryberry had her best round ever. Shaely Garrison had her best round ever. Hailey shot an 83…not too bad today. And the cool thing is, with all of them having good rounds, they all have things they can work on and improve on. When they have their best rounds, and they see room for improvement, it’s a good thing.”
The Tigers took second even though they hit the links without Rylee Scott, who has been the team’s No. 2 player. Scott finished third behind Allman and Bryant at last week’s Joplin invite.
“With Rylee gone, we feel pretty good finishing where we did,” Catron said. “Our girls have been working hard and practicing hard. I can’t ask for anything more than that.”
Catron noted it’s already been an unusual start to a new season.
“Everything’s so up in the air,” Catron said. “We don’t even know what class we’re in yet. We don’t know where the districts are yet.”

According to a recent press release from the Missouri State High School Activities Association, classifications for some fall sports, including girls golf, are set to be released on Sept. 21.

JOPLIN RESULTS
Joplin’s Emily Delman placed fifth with an 89. She had a 47 on the front nine and a 42 on the back.
Bella Stotlar shot a 104 and finished 12th. Also for the Eagles, Lindsey Belnap was 15th, Sophia Schwartz tied for 17th and Campbell Waggoner was 20th.
“Emily had a really good day,” Eagles coach Shannon Neill said. “And we had a lot of improvements on our team overall. This is a difficult course, so I’m really pleased with how they played today.”
Neill noted her program’s numbers are up this fall.
“We’re blessed to have 10 girls out for golf this year,” Neill said. “It’s great to see the program growing.”

WEBB CITY RESULTS
Sarah Oathout carded a 90 and finished in sixth place to lead Webb City. The returning state qualifier had a 46 on the front and a 44 on the back.
“Sarah’s not quite where she wants to be yet, but she did make progress from last week,” Cardinals coach Jackson Boyer said.
Webb City’s Laya McAllister tied for seventh with a 95, while teammate Sydney French placed ninth with a 97. Sophia Coulson tied for 38th, while Eve Cartwright was 50th.
“I saw an improvement from last week,” Boyer said. “We’re still not meeting our goals, but it’s early enough in the season that we hope we keep improving. We’re just trying to lower the team score every week.”

CARL JUNCTION RESULTS

Anna Burch was Carl Junction’s top finisher. She shot a 114 and tied for 17th.
Also for the Bulldogs, Rylee Sprague was 28th, Kris Smith took 34th, Jasmine Woerner finished 36th and Chloe Mitchell was 38th.
“We had a lot of young players come out this year, so I’ve been watching them continually improve,” Bulldogs coach Corey Clingan said. “Some of these girls haven’t been playing golf for very long, so seeing the strides they’re making is very pleasing.”
The Bulldogs lost four-year standout Jenna Teeter to graduation. Teeter is now playing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

INVITE NOTES: Seneca’s Kaitlyn Soden finished 11th with a 103, while McDonald County’s Jolie Stipp shot a 104 and tied Sotlar for 12th. Nevada was led by Katie Pennington, who finished 19th with a 114.
Area golf teams will compete at Nevada on Friday.
