GIRLS GOLF: Joplin claims team crown at Carthage, Nevada’s Cameron is top individual

CARTHAGE, Mo. — For the third time this season, the Joplin High School girls golf team captured a team championship at a local tournament.

The Eagles won the team crown at the eCarthage.com Invitational on Monday at the Carthage Golf Course. 

Joplin finished with a four-person score of 381. Cassville was second with a 406 and Webb City finished third in the standings with a 407.

Rounding out the team standings were Carl Junction (416), Lamar (425), McDonald County (440) and Monett (466). Carthage, Seneca and Nevada were among the teams that had individuals competing.

The Eagles have also won team titles at Carl Junction and Cassville thus far this fall. 

As far as the individual leaderboard, the Eagles had three golfers finish in the top nine.

Joplin’s Kenna Haley finished fifth with a 91, while Lindsey Belnap was sixth with a 93 and Drew Yockey took ninth with a 95. Taylor Colson shot a 102 for Joplin’s fourth score and was 17th, while Chloe Friend carded 104 and tied for 19th.

Nevada sophomore Emree Cameron was the individual medalist with a 3-under-par 68. In an impressive showing, Cameron had seven birdies and three eagles. She made par on eight holes.

Cameron was 14 strokes better than the runner-up and was also the lone golfer to shoot under par.

“Emree had another outstanding day,” Nevada coach Brian Leonard told SoMo Sports. “This is Emree’s third tournament championship victory this year (Joplin, Bolivar, Carthage).”

Carthage’s Shay Gaddis took second individually with an 11-over-par 82. 

Cassville’s Avery Chappell finished third (82) and Lamar’s Victoria O’Neal was fourth (86). 

After Joplin’s Haley and Belnap, Monett’s Kaite Geiss took seventh (94) and McDonald County’s Fayth Ogden placed eighth (95).

Webb City’s Jacie Crouch carded 96 and finished 10th. 

Carl Junction’s Anna Burch, Webb City’s Langlee Walker and Cassville’s Gracie Harmon all shot 97 to tie for 11th place, while Carthage’s Addie Foust carded 98 to finish 14th. 

Webb City’s Avery Hodson carded 99 and finished 15th.

Seneca’s top performer was Maddi Aumen, who finished 23rd with a 105.

There were 54 golfers competing.
