Carthage wins first round of Papa John’s Challenge, Webb City takes second

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Led by Hailey Bryant’s 41, the Carthage High School girls golf team took first place at the season opening Papa John’s Challenge on Monday at the Carthage Golf Course.

Carthage captured the team crown with a 183.

After Bryant’s 41, Rylee Scott shot a 46, Caitlin Derryberry carded a 47 and Ava Lacey turned in a 49 to lead the hosts. 

Also for the Tigers, Shaely Garrison and Aubri Fisher both shot 53 while Kim Lopez had a 61.

Webb City took second with a team score of 207.

Sarah Oathout shot a 48, while Sydney French carded a 50, Laya McAllister turned in a 52, Sophia Coulson shot a 57 and Eve Cartwright had a 68. 

Joplin finished third in the team standings with a 213.

Emily Delman shot a 48, while Campbell Waggoner carded a 51. Sophia Schwartz shot a 54, Kenna Haley had a 60 and Drew Yockey turned in a 65.

Carl Junction rounded out the team standings with a 232. 

Anna Burch shot a 54, Rylee Sprague carded a 55, Jasmine Woerner had a 60, Avery Brannin shot 61, Kris Smith turned in a 63, Chloe Mitchell had a 64 and Abbi Feagan shot a 65.

Round 2 of the event is Tuesday at Briarbrook, while the final round will be held Wednesday at Schifferdecker.
