CROSS COUNTRY: Area athletes compete at Seneca invite

SENECA, Mo. — With two of the top five runners, Lamar’s boys captured the team championship at the Seneca Invitational cross country meet on Thursday.

Lamar (74), Gravette (87) and McDonald County (98) were the top three boys teams.

Monett’s Victor Salas won the boys race in 17:53, while Lamar’s Cameron Bailey was second (18:41), College Heights Christian’s Colton McMillan was third (19:00), Reeds Spring’s Connor Love took fourth (19:00) and Lamar’s Ryder Friend was fifth (19:06).

Jasper’s Leland Harris finished seventh, Cassville’s Ethan Bohmke was eighth, McDonald County’s Devon Hickman took ninth and CHC’s Owen Horton was 11th. 

Mac County’s Lane Pratt and Caleb Garvin finished 15th and 16th, while College Heights’ Connor Jordan finished 17th. 

Also competing for the CHC boys were Drew Sawkins (49th) and Layden Shaffer (76th).

Seneca’s top finisher was Brock Short (68th). 

Gravette (28), McDonald County (56) and Cassville (57) were the top three girls teams.

Gravette’s Julia Whorton won the girls race in 22:25.

Cassville’s Jadyn Williams-Reed and Lamar’s Abigail Diggs finished third and fourth, while Monett’s Mary Jastal and Aurora’s Drew Mayes were sixth and seventh. 

Cassville’s Tori Mitchell and McDonald County’s duo of Madison Burton and Clara Horton rounded out the top 10.

Mac County’s Kate Cheney finished 12th and College Heights Christian’s Madelynn Jordan was 14th.

Also competing for the CHC girls were Lilly Royer (21st) and Madi Carson (25th).
