REPUBLIC, Mo. — Republic hung crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the third and fifth innings en route to a 5-1 win over Carl Junction on Thursday.
The Tigers broke a scoreless tie through two innings with three runs in the third inning. Carl Junction (10-4, 1-2) got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth, but Republic scored twice in the fifth inning and kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the final three frames to earn the win.
Gavyn Beckner earned the win after allowing one run on five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in a complete-game, seven-inning performance.
Alex Baker took the loss for the Bulldogs after allowing five runs, one earned, on five hits, a walk and six strikeouts in six complete innings.
Carson Johnson doubled and scored a run for CJ, while Baker had a hit and the lone RBI in the loss.
Beckner had two hits, including a double. Vincent Pyeatt had one, a run and an RBI. Jared Hughes tripled and scored a run.
