BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Neosho tops East Newton; Joplin and College Heights fall

NEOSHO 10, EAST NEWTON 1

Neosho scored in every inning but the fifth on the way to a win over East Newton on Monday.

The Wildcats scored twice in the first frame, another in the second, two runs in each the third and fourth innings and capped their scoring with a three-run sixth.

Kael Smith earned the win after allowing one run on seven hits, a walk and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

Christian Cook took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits and a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.

Eli Zar had two hits, scored three runs and drove in a run for Neosho. Wyatt Shadwick had two hits, two RBI and scored a run. Austin Rodriguez had two hits and scored a run, while River Brill had two hits, an RBI and scored a run.

Braiden Vanlue had two hits and scored a run for East Newton.

Neosho hosts Bolivar on Tuesday.

 

GLENDALE 11, JOPLIN 0 (5 INNINGS)

Glendale led 1-0 before a seven-run third inning and a three-run fourth put the finishing touches on a five-inning win over Joplin on Monday.

Spencer Pottebaum earned the win after pitching five scoreless innings on two hits and four strikeouts.

Byler Reither took the loss after allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits, three walks and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

Layten Copher and Jackson Queen registered the two hits for Joplin.

Joplin (8-19) wraps its regular season with a matchup against Lamar on Wednesday at the JHS Athletic Complex.

 

DIAMOND 8, COLLEGE HEIGHTS 7 (11 INNINGS)

Diamond scored twice in the 11th inning and held College Heights to a single tally in the bottom half of the inning on the way to an extra-inning win on Monday.

Peyton Marbough earned the win after allowing one run on three hits, six walks and five strikeouts in 3 1/3 relief innings.

Josh Anderson took the loss after allowing two runs on one hit, three walks and two strikeouts in four relief innings.

Cody Neal had two hits and scored four runs, while Jacob Atkinson had two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Jayce Walker had three hits, including a double, two RBI and a run scored. Smoke Ezell had two hits.
