BASEBALL: Joplin sweeps twinbill on the road

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Joplin hit the road for a doubleheader and walked away with a pair of wins on Saturday.

JOPLIN 14, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 1 (5 INNINGS)

Joplin opened the first game with two runs in the first inning before adding three runs in the third inning and a nine spot in the fourth en route to a five-inning win.

Brecken Green earned the win, the first of his career at the varsity level, after allowing one run on three hits and six strikeouts in five innings.

Antonio Graham took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits, five walks and three strikeouts in three innings.

Byler Reither led the Eagles at the plate with a double and a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Eli Sotlar hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBI and two runs scored. Jackson Queen had two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Cole Lawrence doubled on the way to two hits, two RBI and a run scored. 

 

JOPLIN 8, TRUMAN 4

Joplin held a 2-1 lead before scoring six times in the fourth inning on the way to finishing off the road sweep. 

Joplin’s six-run fourth was highlighted by an RBI double from Queen and a pair of run-scoring singles from Kutler Schwarting and Brady Mails. 

Schwarting earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts in four innings.

Kyle Durham took the loss after allowing eight runs, three earned, on seven hits,  a walk and three strikeouts in three innings.

Queen had two hits, including a double, an RBI and scored one. 

Joplin (8-18) is at Glendale on Monday.
