VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Joplin beats Willard in 5 ; CJ beats Branson in 4; Seneca, Mac County and TJ earn sweeps; Webb City falls

JOPLIN WINS OVER WILLARD IN FIVE

WILLARD, Mo. — Joplin took the first two sets before Willard rallied back to force a fifth set, which the Eagles took to finish off the 25-12, 25-12, 22-25, 19-25 and 15-11 win in Central Ozark Conference action on Thursday.

Joplin improves to 13-10-1, 2-4 COC.

Bailey Owens had 16 kills and six digs, while Serafina Auberry finished with 11 kills, 15 digs and a block. Jayla Hunter finished with 31 digs, while Abby Hembree had six kills, 28 assists and 10 digs. Paisley Parker had four kills and 18 digs, while Adalynn Niorfalise had 12 assists and four digs. Janiah Vaughn added six kills and Raelin Calderon had five kills and three aces.

Joplin hosts Neosho on Tuesday in conference action.

 

CARL JUNCTION BEATS BRANSON IN FOUR SETS

BRANSON, Mo. — Carl Junction won the opener before dropping the second set and recovering to win the final two sets in a 25-16, 14-25, 5-19 and 25-22 win over Branson in Central Ozark Conference action on Thursday.

Carl Junction improves to 15-7-1, 4-2 COC.

Jocelyn Brown finished with 35 digs, while Kylie Scott added 17 kills, 15 digs and three aces. Lo Jones finished with 44 assists and 12 digs, while Abby Wilson had 12 digs and nine kills. Karissa Chase added 14 kills in the win.

The Bulldogs take part in the Lebanon Pinkfest tournament on Saturday with matchups against Helias Catholic, Marshfield and West Plains.

 

SENECA SWEEPS MONETT

MONETT, Mo. — Seneca went on the road and earned a 25-13, 25-12 and 25-13 sweep over Monett on Thursday. 

With the win, the Indians improved to 14-8-1 and moved to 4-0 in Big 8 Conference play.

Brylee Sage finished with 28 assists and five aces, while Parker Long had nine kills, eight digs and five aces. Jera Jameson added seven kills and a block, with Braxton Raulston adding nine kills and nine digs.

Seneca is at Lamar on Tuesday.

 

THOMAS JEFFERSON SWEEPS VERONA

VERONA, Mo. — Thomas Jefferson earned a 26-24, 25-17 and 25-11 win over Verona on Thursday.

Mary Nguyen had nine digs, nine assists, six aces and two kills, while Nico Carlson added seven kills, six digs and an assist. Gabbi Hiebert finished with four assists, two kills and a dig. Lannah Grigg had 11 kills, six digs, four aces, an assist and a block. Macie Shifferd finished with three digs, three assists, two kills and an ace. Marley Flanagan had five dings, a kill and an ace. Maggie Sutton had two aces, two digs and a kill. 

 

WEBB CITY FALLS AT REPUBLIC

REPUBLIC, Mo. — Webb City won the first two sets before Republic rallied for a 3-2 win over the Cardinals in Central Ozark Conference play.

The Tigers topped the Cardinals 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 16-14.

Brenda Lawrence compiled 16 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Aubree Lassiter contributed 15 kills and six digs. Kate Brownfield had 12 kills and nine digs, while Jaeli Rutledge chipped in eight kills and three blocks. 

Kyah Sanborn handed out 46 assists to go with eight digs, while Sophia Crane had a team-high 23 digs to go along with seven assists. 

Jenna Noel contributed 12 digs and three aces, while Kirra Long chipped in four kills and two blocks. 

Webb City (21-4-1) will compete at the Willard Tournament on Saturday. 

 

MUSTANGS SWEEP PATRIOTS

ANDERSON, Mo. — McDonald County defeated East Newton in straight sets, 25-13, 25-22, 26-24, on Thursday night in a Big 8 Conference clash.

Savannah Leib recorded eight kills and five blocks for the Mustangs, while Madison Parker added seven kills.

Jayden Forcum had 29 assists, while Hay Nay Way had a team-high 27 digs. Megan Elwood contributed 19 digs.

The Mustangs host Webb City on Monday.
