PREP ROUNDUP: CHC softball earns win; McAuley golf wins event; Neosho soccer tops McDonald County; Neosho tennis suffers loss

SOFTBALL

COLLEGE HEIGHTS 4, LAMAR 1

LAMAR, Mo. — College Heights scored one in the first inning and played add-on throughout en route to the road win over Lamar on Tuesday.

The Cougars (7-1, 2-0 Ozark 7) took the lead in the first after Jayli Johnson, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, came around to score on a Lamar error. Lamar tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single. Aaliyah Perez was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth for CHC before coming around to score on a Lamar error following a Lauren Ukena bunt. Ukena scored later in the inning on an RBI groundout from Johnson. Addie Lawrence singled to lead off the top of the seventh and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Maddy Colin earned the win in the circle for the Cougars, allowing one run in a complete-game effort. She scattered three hits, walked one and struck out 10 in seven innings.

Johnson had a hit, an RBI and scored a run to lead CHC at the plate. Lawrence finished with a hit and a run scored. 

College Heights is at home and takes on Diamond on Friday.

 

GOLF

MCAULEY WINS TRIANGULAR

McAuley Catholic’s boys golf team won a triangular at Twin Hills on Tuesday. 

The Warriors finished with a team score of 206, while Sarcoxie had 234 and College Heights had 254.

McAuley’s Evan D’Amour and Cade Englert both turned in identical scores of 47 to earn co-medalist honors.

McAuley’s Joe Lupicki carded 50 and Jeff Horinek shot 62.

College Heights’ Luke Johnson carded 61. Also competing for CHC were Matt Winters (62), Ashley Buchanan (64) and Marley Woodford (67). 

The Warriors play at the Horton Smith Tournament at Schifferdecker Golf Course on Monday.

 

SOCCER

NEOSHO 6, MCDONALD COUNTY 1

NEOSHO, Mo. — Neosho defeated McDonald County 6-1 on Tuesday night. 

Erika Ornelas and Breanna Alvarado scored two goals apiece for the Wildcats, while Ivie Brisco added one goal. Abby Jarvis had one assist. 

Neosho had 10 shots on-goal. 

The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday against Springfield Catholic. 

 

TENNIS

NEOSHO FALLS TO REPUBLIC

Republic swept all nine matches against Neosho on Tuesday.

In singles matches, Andrew McMillin defeated Christian Williams 8-1, Braden Synder beat Melvin Lopez 8-5, Ian Deckard defeated Ryno Lee 8-0, Jacob Moody topped Blaze McKay 8-0, Scott Packer beat Caden Kelly 8-1 and Chase Elder defeated Kevin Paige 8-0.

In doubles, McMillin-Deckard beat Williams-Lopez 8-2, Snyder-Packer beat Lee-McKay 8-0 and Elder-Garrett Carpenter defeated Kelly-Paige 8-0.

Neosho is at Willard on Thursday.
