WEBB CITY, Mo. — In a final tune-up before next week’s Central Ozark Conference Meet, Joplin’s boys and girls track squads claimed the team championships at the Webb City Invitational on Friday inside Cardinal Stadium.
Joplin’s boys won the meet with 163 points. Willard (157), Neosho (122), Webb City (93) and East Newton (48) rounded out the top five teams.
Joplin’s girls compiled 156.5 points. Webb City (150), Carl Junction (126), Neosho (86) and McDonald County (63) rounded out the top five teams.
JOPLIN HIGHLIGHTS
Joplin’s boys won seven events.
Eagles senior Donovyn Fowler won both of his signature events, as the future Oklahoma Sooner took first in the triple jump (14.52m) and the long jump (7.18m).
Joplin’s Donovahn Watkins won the shot put with a heave of 16.86 meters and Gustavo Onate took first in the 300 hurdles in 44.48 seconds.
The Eagles won three of the four relays.
Joplin’s team of Hobbs Campbell, Zaben Barnes, Nicholas Horton and Evan Matlock won the 4×800 relay in 8:14.
The Eagles won the 4×200 in 1:34, with Orion Norris, Tayshaun Palmer, Davin Thomas and Luke Vieselmeyer running. Joplin crossed the line first in the 4×100 in 44.19 seconds, with Fowler, Norris, Thomas and Vieselmeyer competing.
Taking second for the Eagles were Norris (400) and Nicholas Horton (800).
Finishing third for the Eagles were Aidan Sampson (LJ), Ian Horton (1600), Drew VanGilder (javelin), Norris (200) and Matlock (3200). Taking fourth were Watkins (discus) and Grey Edwards (1600).
The Joplin girls won the 4×200 relay in 1:49, with Brynn Driver, Allie Lawrence, Abigayle Lowery and Amaya Montgomery competing.
The Eagles were second in the 4×100, with Kaylie Anderson, Abigail Eckert, Lawrence and Lowery running. The JHS girls were third in the 4×400, with Eckert, Montgomery, Owens and Driver running.
Finishing second in their individual events were Jovi Frost (shot put), Phia Vogel (100), Driver (TJ, 400) and Maria Loum (PV). Taking third were Anderson (100) and Lowery (200).
Finishing fourth in their respective events for the JHS girls were Bailey Owens (high jump), Claire Jasper (shot put), Addison Route (100 H), Lowery (100), Eckert (LJ), Lawrence (PV, 200), Kirsten Thom (300H) and Mairi Beranek (3200).
WEBB CITY HIGHLIGHTS
The Webb City girls won seven events.
Riley Hawkins won two events for the Cardinals. A Missouri Southern signee, Hawkins crossed the line first in the 1600 with a time of 5:26 and also won the 3200 in 12:03.
Also winning events for the Webb City girls were Chase Stilley (high jump), Ripley Shanks (pole vault), Aubree Lassiter (discus) and Dawsyn Decker (javelin).
The team of Izzy Lopez, Abi Street, Sophia Crane and Alanna Bundy won the 4×800 relay in 10:41.
Street was the runner-up in the 3200, while finishing third in their events were Decker (shot put), Essence Robinson (LJ, 400) and Bundy (800).
The Cardinals were third in both the 4×100 and 4×200 and fourth in the 4×400.
Individual event winners for the Webb City boys were William Wolfe (high jump) and Lucas Ott (javelin). Wolfe cleared 1.92 meters, while Ott recorded a toss of 50.93 meters.
Trey Roets was the runner-up in the javelin, while Noah Moss (110 H), Dupree Jackson (LJ), Jose Antillon (400), Dustin Brockmiller (3200) all finished fourth in their respective events.
Webb City’s boys were second in three relays—the 4×100, 4×200, 4×800.
COLLEGE HEIGHTS HIGHLIGHTS
The College Heights Christian Cougars competed alongside the area’s large schools.
For the College Heights girls, Addie Lawrence won the 400-meter run (1:00) and was the runner-up in the 200 (26.55).
College Heights’ girls took second in both the 4×200 relay and the 4×400, with Jayli Johnson, Lawrence, Lauren Ukena and Katie Moss competing.
The CHC girls finished third in the 4×800, with Marla Anderegg, Madelynn Jordan, Moss and Emily Winters competing.
Ukena was third in the 300 hurdles, while Maddy Colin (high jump) and Johnson (400) finished fourth in their events.
The CHC boys finished fourth in the 4×200 relay, with Zach Beaty, Colsen Dickens, Caleb Quade and Ethan Ukena competing.
College Heights’ boys were fifth in the 4×400, with Beaty, Dickens, Derrick McMillan and Quade running.
CARL JUNCTION HIGHLIGHTS
Carl Junction’s girls won eight events.
Ally Montez (100 hurdles, 300 H), Olivia Vediz (triple jump, long jump) and Sydney Ward (100-meter dash, 200) each won two events.
The CJ girls won the 4×100 relay in 50.8 seconds, with Vediz, Montez, Hannah Cantrell and Ward competing. The Bulldogs also took first in the 4×400, with Ward, Emily Rice, Delaney Harris and Montez competing.
Also for the Bulldogs, Cantrell (LJ) and Loren Lee (discus) placed second in their events, while Sloan Uebinger (100 H), Acadia Badgley (PV) and Madilyn Olds (javelin) all took third.
Leading the CJ boys was Colton Talken, who placed fourth in the 100.
NEOSHO HIGHLIGHTS
Neosho’s Kaden Cole won the 1600 in 4:34.
The Wildcats took first in the 4×400 in 3:37, with Izaiah Hill, Evan Haskins, Connor Jordon and Isaiah Green competing.
Taking second in their events for the Wildcats were Tyrese Hill (100, 200), Jared Siler (LJ) and Green (TJ). Siler was also third in both the triple jump and high jump.
The Wildcats were third in the 4×200 relay, with Marcus Duncan, Haskins, Green and Tyrese Hill competing. The NHS team of Jordon, Brandon Doyle, Brandon Cargile and Gabe Mabrey finished fourth in the 4×800 relay.
On the girls side, Neosho’s Riley Kemna was second in both the 1600 and the 3200.
Finishing third were Miranda Wennhold (high jump) and Chloe Wood (3200), while Wennhold was fourth in the triple jump.
The NHS girls were second in the 4×800 (Wood, Prough, Kivett, Kemna).
Beclynn Garrett placed fourth in the javelin with a school record toss of 32.53 meters.
MCDONALD COUNTY HIGHLIGHTS
McDonald County’s Jada Alfaro won the girls shot put (9.98m). Taking second in their events for the Mac County girls were Savannah Leib (high jump) and Mariana Salas (javelin), while Sosha Howard placed third in the triple jump.
Placing third for the McDonald County boys were Jr. Eliam (discus) and Ricky Wright (110 H), while finishing fourth was Joshua Pacheco (TJ).
OTHER EVENT WINNERS
Other event winners in the boys meet were East Newton’s Gabe Bergen (400) and Kelton Sorrell (3200) and Willard’s Isaac Shaw (discus), David Schwartz (110 H), Walter Jones-Luster (100, 200) and Thomas Shuster (800).
Willard’s Ella Hayter won the girls 800.

WHAT’S NEXT?
Squads from Joplin, Webb City, Carl Junction and Neosho will compete at the Central Ozark Conference Meet next Thursday at Carthage High School’s David Haffner Stadium.
College Heights will compete at the district meet on May 7 in Sarcoxie.
