BOYS SWIMMING: Athletes from Carthage, Joplin fare well at Monett

Boys swim teams from Carthage and Joplin finished third and fourth, respectively, in the team standings at the Monett Invitational on Tuesday at the Monett Area YMCA.

Springfield Central took first with 364 points, while Monett was second with 342, with Carthage (332), Joplin (270) and Camdenton (177) rounding out the top five teams.

Logan-Rogersville (165), Nevada (95) and Lamar (32) also competed.

CARTHAGE RESULTS

Carthage’s team of Kellen Frieling, Braxton McBride, Landon White and Ezekiel Ramirez took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.81. 

The Tigers finished second in the 200 freestyle relay, with Frieling, McBride, Ramirez and White recording a time of 1:41. 

Carthage finished fifth in the 400 free relay, with Will Wallace, White, Trey Nye and Noah Blackford competing.

A sophomore, Frieling won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute flat and also took fifth in the 200 free.

A freshman, McBride was the runner-up in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. A junior, Wallace also placed second in two events, the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. 

Also for the Tigers, Ramirez finished third in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, White took third in the 100 butterfly and Blackford finished fourth in the 100 backstroke. 

JOPLIN RESULTS

The Eagles won three events.

Nathan Wardlow (2:00) and Ian Vermillion (2:05) finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. 

A freshman, Wardlow also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:22. 

The Eagles touched the wall first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42, with Vermillion, Wardlow, Jacob Glenn and Zane Newman competing. 

The JHS team of Glenn, Wyatt Satterlee, Newman and Wardlow finished second in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.95.

A junior, Newman was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly.  Newman finished fourth in the 50 free, with teammate Jacob Glenn seventh. 

Also for the Eagles, Parker Hinman placed fourth in the 500 freestyle, Jackson Mordica and Satterlee were sixth and seventh in the 100 breaststroke and Vermillion finished seventh in the 100 fly. 

Joplin’s team of Hinman, Oliver Bortz, Satterlee and Vermillion placed sixth in the 200 free relay. 

MONETT HIGHLIGHTS

Monett’s Matthew Fillinger won the 200 IM in 2:13 and placed first in the 100 freestyle in 52.27 seconds. 

The Cubs won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39, with Jayden Apostol, Andrew Dixon, Andrew Kranz and Fillinger competing.
