CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The visiting Nixa Eagles scored three goals in the first 10 minutes on their way to a 8-0 mercy-rule win against the host Carl Junction Bulldogs during their Central Ozark Conference match Friday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.

The Eagles scored their six first-half goals in two bunches with their second batch of three goals occurring a seven-minute stretch ending 10 minutes before halftime.

Nixa scored two more goals after halftime and the match ended with nearly 30 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Bulldogs finished with no shots attempted on Nixa junior goalkeeper Allyson Pendergraft.

“They took advantage of every single mistake we made early and then we just dug a hole deeper and deeper and deeper, and everything seemed to go in,” Carl Junction coach Ed Miller said. “They were just running circles around us tonight, and we’re just like bam, bam, bam.

“Trying to figure some stuff out before districts start next week. We’re trying to get some stuff together. Obviously, we’re like everybody else. We’re banged up a little bit. We’ve got some people out. We’re trying to move some people around to different spots, but it’s soccer. You’re supposed to pass, trap, move, and do stuff. We just didn’t do it. They beat us to every loose ball, and they were able to put away the ball whenever they needed.

“They didn’t let off the gas pedal. They kept it coming. Hopefully, we can figure some stuff out and learn from our mistakes here tonight and come back ready next week to address some of these questions that we have before we go into districts.”

Carl Junction dropped to 17-4 overall and 4-4 COC, and the Bulldogs return home Tuesday with their conference finale and penultimate game of their regular season against Joplin.

The Bulldogs lost consecutive matches for the first time this season with their 3-0 loss Tuesday against Ozark and their 8-0 loss Friday.

Carl Junction’s first two losses this season were 2-1 in overtime against Willard (April 13) and 1-0 against Republic (April 27).
