VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Joplin, Carl Junction, Seneca all earn sweeps; TJ falls to Wheaton

JOPLIN ROLLS TO 3-0 WIN AT AURORA

AURORA, Mo. — In a final tune-up before conference play begins next week, Joplin’s volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win at Aurora on Thursday.

The Eagles won the non-conference matchup 25-12, 25-21, 25-15.

It’s Joplin’s second straight win after Tuesday’s win over Springfield Catholic.

On Thursday, junior outside hitter/middle blocker Bailey Owens led Joplin with 17 kills.

Paisley Parker contributed 15 digs and seven kills for the Eagles, while Serafina Auberry added six kills.

Abby Hembree had 16 assists, while fellow setter Kaya Cooper recorded 15 assists. 

Adalynn Niorfalise had a team-high 21 digs, while Jayla Hunter added 17 digs. Cooper contributed 11 digs. 

Joplin (7-5-1) hosts Carthage on Tuesday in the COC opener. 

 

CARL JUNCTION SWEEPS MAC COUNTY

ANDERSON, Mo. — The Carl Junction Bulldogs extended their winning streak to four with a straight set victory over McDonald County on Thursday.

The Bulldogs defeated the Mustangs 25-21, 25-13, 25-14 to improve to 4-1.

Carl Junction’s Kylie Scott recorded 15 kills, seven digs and four aces to lead the Bulldogs, while Destiny Buerge added nine kills, eight digs and two aces.

Karissa Chase contributed nine kills. 

Carl Junction senior setter Logan Jones handed out 33 assists to go along with five digs and a pair of aces.

For the Mustangs, Savannah Leib had seven kills and Jayden Forcum contributed 16 assists and five digs.

Carl Junction begins conference play on Tuesday with a home match against Webb City. 

McDonald County (2-6-1) travels to rival Neosho on Monday. 

 

SENECA WINS IN FIVE SETS

JASPER, Mo. — Seneca earned a 3-2 win over Jasper on Thursday. 

The Indians beat the Eagles 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 15-10.

Parker Long recorded 19 kills, 14 digs and two blocks, while Jera Jameson contributed 18 kills and six aces.

Braxton Raulston had 12 kills, Ella Graham recorded 12 digs and Brylee Sage handed out 51 assists. 

The Indians are now 6-1. 

Seneca is at Aurora on Monday.

 

 THOMAS JEFFERSON FALLS TO WHEATON

Wheaton defeated Thomas Jefferson 3-2 on Thursday. The Bulldogs defeated the Cavaliers 25-16, 25-9, 22-25, 18-25, 15-7.

Lannah Grigg and Gabbi Hiebert recorded 10 kills apiece for Thomas Jefferson. Hiebert added six digs, while Grigg contributed four digs and two aces.

Nico Carlson had 15 assists to go with five kills for TJ, while Mary Nguyen had five digs, four aces and three kills.

Macie Shifferd contributed 11 digs, five kills and four aces, while Alexis Stamps compiled six assists and four kills. 

Thomas Jefferson (4-7) is hosting a tournament on Saturday.
