PREP SOFTBALL: Elder dazzles in the circle to lead Carthage past Willard

WILLARD, Mo. — Carthage pitcher Jensyn Elder dominated in the circle to lead the Tigers past Willard 2-0 in Central Ozark Conference play on Thursday. 

Elder scattered two hits over seven innings, didn’t walk a batter and struck out 16 batters on the way to a complete-game shutout on 92 pitches.

Sydni Fletcher took the loss after allowing two unearned runs on four hits and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.

With Elder in control in the circle, the Tigers (12-11, 4-1 COC) reached the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. After Kate Potter singled to center with one out and Presley Probert reached base on an error, Natalie Rodriguez singled to second base with two outs to score Potter for a 1-0 lead.

Carthage doubled its lead with an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Rodriguez reached on an error to start the inning before coming around to score on a two-out single to right field by Elder for a 2-0 advantage.

Elder finished with a hit and an RBI, while Potter had a single and a run scored. Rodriquez had one hit, drove in a run and scored once. Mary Grace Richmond had the other hit for Carthage at the plate.

Carthage hosts Camdenton on Saturday.
