The Neosho High School girls tennis team competed at the individual Class 2 District 6 tournament on Friday.
The top two singles players and the top two doubles teams advanced to the sectional round of the state tournament. None of the Wildcats were able to advance.
In singles, Claudia Martensen earned a marathon win over Branson 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 10-7. Wildcats coach Nick Hays noted the match took 2 hours, 40 minutes to complete.
Martensen suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Willard in the quarterfinals.
Also in singles, Neosho’s Claire Burghart fell 6-0, 6-1 to Webb City.
Neosho’s doubles teams of Lyndsey Doke-Sydnee Minton and Keely Keeton-Emma VanDorn both suffered first-round losses.
Parkview defeated Doke-Minton 1-6, 6-2, 10-4. Webb City defeated Keeton-VanDorn 6-0, 6-1.
The team district tournament begins on Monday. Seventh-seeded Neosho takes on second-seeded Carl Junction.
