The Joplin High School girls tennis team kicked off the 2021 season on Friday at the Kickapoo Invitational.
The Eagles dropped three duals at the event.
Bolivar defeated Joplin 5-1.
Joplin’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles, as Astrid Cardenas and Abry Stayton defeated McKinley Hedges and Sophia Vestal 7-5.
At No. 2 doubles, Bolivar’s Josie Douglas and Brynley Waters beat Cloey Blank and Brynn Driver 6-1. Joplin’s Madi Corl and Zayda Dergance suffered a 6-0 loss to Emma Geurin and Reagan Hunt.
In completed singles matches, Bolivar’s Geurin beat Mya Ndedi-Ntepe 6-4, while Waters topped Driver 6-1 and Sarah Bowes defeated Corl 6-0.
Springfield Central defeated Joplin 5-0.
Central won the doubles matches 7-5, 6-1 and 6-0.
In completed singles matches, Kate Steingraber beat Corl 6-2 and Molly Scribner defeated Dergance 6-0.
Ozark edged Joplin 5-4.
In doubles, Joplin’s Cardenas and Stayton beat Hannah Metcalkf and Loren Newell 6-0, while Blank-Ndedi-Ntepe defeated Makenna Whitfield-Isabella Montileone 6-4.
Ozark’s Madison Morgan and Margaret Kensinger defeated Driver and Corl 6-1.
In singles, Cardenas beat Whitfield 6-0 and Stayton defeated Newell 6-0.
Ozark’s Morgan defeated Blank 6-2, Montileone topped Ndedi-Ntepe 6-4, Kensinger beat Jadyn Elder 6-0 and Laura Wolf defeated Alex Carson 6-0.
Joplin returns to action on Monday at Thomas Jefferson.
