Led by freshman Emree Cameron’s 2-under-par 72, the Nevada Tigers captured the team championship at the Seneca Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Nevada finished with a team score of 420, while Carthage was second with a 425. Webb City (426) and Joplin (443) were third and fourth in the team standings.

Nevada coach Brian Leonard said Cameron set the MSHSAA record for the lowest score on a par-74 course.

“In my 17 years of coaching, we have never played a par-74 golf course,” Leonard said. “The girls played a very tough course with very thick, rough and quick greens. Then the wind started swirling from several directions to make the course play even harder.”

Carthage’s Hailey Bryant was the runner-up with an 83, while Webb City’s Laya McAllister placed third with a 94. Monett’s Claire Nation (102) and Webb City’s Sydney French (103) rounded out the top five.

Also competing for Nevada were Kate Pennington (111), Libby Barrett (117), Paige Hertzberg (120) and Riley Severance (120).

In addition to Bryant, competing for Carthage were Caitlin Derryberry (112), Aubri Fisher (115), Ava Lacey (115) and Shay Gaddis (125).

Other scores for Webb City were Sophia Coulson (111), Jacie Crouch (118) and Langlee Walker (135).

Lindsay Belnap carded 107 to lead Joplin. Also competing for the Eagles were Drew Yockey (111), Kenna Haley (111), Sophia Schwartz (114) and Chloe Friend (140).

Rylee Sprague (114) and Anna Burch (115) led Carl Junction. Also competing for the Bulldogs were Alex Teeter (126), Olivia Teeter (128) and Chloe Mitchell (131).

Seneca was led by Madison Babbitt’s 116 and Britany Adcock’s 119.

Local girls golfers will compete at the Joplin Invitational on Wednesday at the Schifferdecker Golf Course.
