GIRLS GOLF: Bryant leads Carthage to Papa John’s Challenge title

Led by individual medalist Hailey Bryant, the Carthage High School girls golf team captured top honors after two days of competition in the Papa John’s Challenge.

The tournament began on Tuesday at the Carthage Golf Course and finished up on Wednesday at Briarbrook Golf Course. Monday’s action at Schifferdecker was called off due to lightning.

The Tigers finished with a cumulative team score of 377, with a 188 on Tuesday and a 189 on Wednesday. Webb City was second in the team standings with a 398, followed by Joplin (421) and Carl Junction (444). 

Bryant finished with a two-day total of 79 after carding a 6-over-par 41 on Tuesday and a 2-over-par 38 on Wednesday. 

Webb City’s Sydney French finished with a 91 and teammate Laya McAllister turned in a 93 to finish as the second and third individuals. French carded 47 on Tuesday and 44 on Wednesday, while McAllister shot a 47 on Tuesday and a 46 on Wednesday. 

Also for Carthage, Caitlin Derryberry and Ava Lacey recorded identical scores of 94. 

Joplin’s top performer was Drew Yockey, who turned in a two-day total of 99. 

Carl Junction was led by Rylee Sprague’s 106.
