DISTRICT TRACK & FIELD: Area athletes advance to sectionals; CHC boys capture district title

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Athletes from College Heights Christian, Thomas Jefferson Independent and McAuley Catholic extended their seasons with their respective performances at the Class 1 District 8 track meet on Saturday at Carthage High School’s David Haffner Stadium.

At the district meet, the top four finishers in each event advanced to next weekend’s sectional meet that will be hosted by School of the Ozarks.  

Led by seven event wins, the College Heights boys edged Jasper and Galena 89-87 for the team championship.

Jasper won the girls title with 105 points and Thomas Jefferson was second with 89.5.

COLLEGE HEIGHTS QUALIFIERS

College Heights sophomore Matt Williams was a double winner, taking first in both the 100-meter dash (12.11 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (24.08). 

Colsen Dickens won the 400-meter run in 53.17 seconds, while Ethan Ukena took first in the triple jump (40-7.5).

College Heights Christian’s Matt Williams won both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.

The CHC boys won three relays and took second in the fourth. 

The Cougars won the 4×100 relay in 46.01, with Zach Beaty, Dickens, Ukena and Williams competing. 

The team of Beaty, Dickens, Caleb Quade and Ukena won the 4×200 in 1:35 and the Cougars won the 4×400 in 3:40, with Beaty, Dickens, Derrick McMillan and Quade running.

College Heights placed second in the 4×800, with McMillan, Elijah Moss, Quade and Brayden Youngberg competing.

Also for the Cougars, Quade took fourth in the high jump (5-7).

 

THOMAS JEFFERSON QUALIFIERS

Thomas Jefferson’s Kip Atteberry had a day to remember. A junior, Atteberry captured three district championships.

Atteberry crossed the line first in the 800-meter run in 2:06, won the 1600 with a time of 4:45 and took first in the 3200 in 11:15.

Also for the Cavaliers, Elias Rincker was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles (45.67), Jay Ball placed third in the discus (110-11) and Levi Triplett was fourth in the 110 hurdles (18.8). 

The Thomas Jefferson boys finished fourth in the team standings with 72 points. 

For the TJ girls, Lannah Grigg was the runner-up in the discus (91-7) and also placed fourth in the shot put (28-4.25). 

Avery Hocker placed third in the triple jump (31-4.5), Alivia Beard finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.63), Sarah Mueller was fourth in the 800 (2:50) and Nico Carlson took fourth in the high jump (4-9).

The TJ girls were second in two relays, the 4×100 (56.10) and the 4×800 (11:54). The 4×100 featured Hocker, Carlson, Gabbi Hiebert and Beard, while Macie Shifferd, Samantha Seto, Mia Grubbs and Mueller ran the 4×800.

 

MCAULEY CATHOLIC QUALIFIERS

McAuley Catholic’s 4×800 relay team advanced to the sectional meet by placing third on Saturday.

The McAuley boys advanced in two relays and three individual events. 

The Warriors were third in the 4×800 relay and fourth in the 4×400. The 4×800 featured Armando Alberto, Phillip Motazedi, Grant Horinek and Drew Zeb, while the 4×400 consisted of Michael Parrigon, Dylan Taffner, Jake Higginbotham and Jacob Bracich.

McAuley’s Joe Staton was the runner-up in the boys pole vault (8-0.5), while Parrigon finished third in the 1600 (4:51) and fourth in the 800 (2:09). 

On the girls side, McAuley’s Kendall Ramsey placed third in the 3200 (13:53) and also finished fourth in the 1600 (6:16) to advance in both events. 

 

CHC GIRLS FARE WELL AT CLASS 2 DISTRICT 6

SARCOXIE, Mo. — The College Heights Christian girls track and field squad competed at the Class 2 District 6 meet on Saturday at Sarcoxie High School.

After winning the Class 1 championship last year, the CHC girls were bumped up to Class 2 due to MSHSAA’s championship factor. 

On Saturday, the top four in each event advance to next weekend’s sectional that will be hosted by School of the Ozarks.

College Heights junior Addie Lawrence won two individual events. She took first in the 200-meter dash (25.79 seconds) and also won the 400-meter run (59.17).

The Cougars took first in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:15, with Jayli Johnson, Lawrence, Lauren Ukena and Katie Moss competing. 

CHC’s 4×800 relay team of Marla Anderegg, Madelynn Jordan, Moss and Emily Winters finished third, while the 4×200 relay team of Johnson, Lawrence, Ukena and Winters placed fourth in 1:52. 

As far as other individual qualifiers, Anderegg was third in the 1600 (6:18), Ukena placed fourth in both the 200 and the 300 hurdles and Johnson took fourth in the 400. 

Other event winners on the girls side were Sarcoxie’s McKenna Bass (100) and Madison Chrisman (100 hurdles) and Diamond’s Jernie DeWitt (triple jump).

Local event winners at the boys meet were Sarcoxie’s Jaron Malotte (110 H) and Miller’s Brenden Thom (200, 400) and Beau Hall (100).
