BOYS TENNIS ROUNDUP: Joplin falls to Carthage; Thomas Jefferson remains undefeated; Carl Junction tops Neosho

CARTHAGE 9, JOPLIN 0

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The host Carthage Tigers earned a clean sweep over the Joplin Eagles in a Central Ozark Conference boys tennis dual on Tuesday at CHS.

“We had some close matches this afternoon against Carthage, particularly in singles,” Joplin coach Aaron Stump said. “Joseph Graham and Adam Badr lost close games after reaching deuce. Hunter Merkley had a strong showing, starting out even with his opponent before falling behind late in the match. Wind played a big factor in the matches, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.”

At No. 1 doubles, Carthage’s Charles Snow and Silas Laytham defeated Joplin’s Graham and Badr 8-3.

Carthage’s Danilo Lopez-Gramajo and William Wallace beat Michael Mancipe and Merkley 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 3 doubles, Carthage’s Rolman Paxtor-Elias and Eli Scott defeated Josiah Hazlewood and Aidan Kester 8-1.

In singles, Snow defeated Graham 8-5 at No. 1 and Laytham edged Badr 9-7 at No. 2.

Lopez-Gramajo beat Mancipe 8-2, Tyler Howard defeated Hazlewood 8-3, Wallace beat Merkley 8-4 and Paxtor-Elias topped Kester 8-2.

Joplin is scheduled to compete at the Springfield Invitational on Wednesday. 

Carthage is at Republic on Thursday. 

 

THOMAS JEFFERSON 9, MOUNT VERNON 0

The Cavaliers improved to 6-0 this season with yet another clean sweep, this one coming against the visiting Mountaineers.

In singles matches played at the TJ courts, Thomas Jefferson’s Ian Ding beat Curtis Meyer 8-0, Prithvi Nagarajan defeated Alvin Reid 8-2, Tyler Brouhard topped Isaac Burks 8-0, Lala Qian beat Tyler Moore 8-3, Hari Nagarajan defeated Gabriel Newman 8-0 and Devan Murali knocked off Ben McKay 8-1.

In doubles, Ding-Brouhard beat Meyer-Reid 8-0, P. Nagarajan-Qian defeated Burks-Newman 8-0 and H. Nagarajan-Murali topped Moore-McKay 8-1.

The Cavaliers will host Clever on Thursday. 

 

CARL JUNCTION 7, NEOSHO 2

The Bulldogs won two of three doubles matches and all but one of the singles matches against the Wildcats on Tuesday in a Central Ozark Conference clash.

Carl Junction’s Blaine Wilkerson and Dan Hodson defeated Christian Williams and Chandler Weber 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Cameron Ball and Jayden Wolf edged Wesley Williams and Aryan Arora 8-6 at No. 3.

At No. 2 doubles, Neosho’s Peyton Williams and Jacob Leibham beat Benjamin Morey and William Russell 8-4.

The Bulldogs won five of the six singles matches.

Wilkerson defeated Christian Williams 8-2, Hodson beat Weber 8-2, Morey topped Peyton Williams 8-4, Russell defeated Leibham 8-2 and Wolf beat Arora 8-1. Neosho’s Wesley Williams defeated Ball 9-7.

Carl Junction is at the Springfield Invitational on Wednesday, while Neosho is at Ozark on Thursday.
