BOYS SWIMMING: Area teams compete at SWMO Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Webb City and Carthage finished seventh and eighth, respectivley, in the final team standings at the Southwest Missouri Swimming Championships on Saturday.

Glendale was the team champion with 602 points. Kickapoo (382.5), West Plains (291.5), Monett (222.5) and Ozark (217) rounded out the top five teams.

Lebanon was sixth with 209 points, followed by Webb City (198.5) and Carthage (185). Joplin finished 13th (116). 

There were 18 teams in attendance. 

 

WEBB CITY RESULTS

Webb City’s Micah Brouwer (1:05) and Zion Wood (1:06) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Both swam state-consideration times. 

Webb City’s 200 freestyle relay team placed seventh, with Emiliano Vasquez, Cody Herndon, Steve Kenlee and Ethan Shipley recording a state-consideration time of 1:35.

Webb City’s 400 free relay team of Vasquz, Herndon, Kenlee and Shipley placed eighth with a consideration time of 3:35.

Kenlee finished ninth in the 500 freestyle with a consideration time of 5:29. He also finished 13th in the 200 freestyle.

Brouwer placed ninth in the 200 individual medley with a state-consideration time of 2:10. 

Judah Ritchie finished 10th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.7) and Vasquez placed 11th in the 50 freestyle (24.02 seconds). Both swimmers recorded consideration times.

Webb City’s Carson Forcum and Eric Keeling finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1-meter diving competition. 

 

CARTHAGE RESULTS

The Tigers finished fourth in the 200 medley relay, with Kellen Frieling, Braxton McBride, Eli Cox and Ezekiel Ramirez competing. 

Carthage’s Ramirez, McBride, Cox and Will Wallace finished seventh in the 400 free relay with a consideration time of 3:33.

Frieling placed fourth in the 100 backstroke by recording a state-consideration time of 58.32 seconds.

McBride placed ninth in the 50 freestyle in a consideration time of 23.72 seconds. He was also 12th in the 100 freestyle in a consideration time of 52.95 seconds. 

Ramirez and Frieling finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. Wallace finished 11th in the 500 free and 12th in the 200 IM, while Ramirez was 13th in the 100 free. 

Landon White and Cox were 14th and 15th in the 100 butterfly. The CHS team of Cox, White, Noah Blackford and Trey Nye finished 15th in the 200 freestyle relay. 

 

JOPLIN RESULTS

Joplin’s Nathan Wardlow finished fourth in the 500 freestyle in a state-consideration time of 5:11. Wardlow also finished ninth in the 200 freestyle with a state-consideration time of 1:58.

The Eagles placed ninth in the 200 medley relay, with Jacob Glenn, Wyatt Satterlee, Zane Newman and Wardlow swimming. 

The Eagles were 11th in the 400 freestyle relay, with Wardlow, Glenn, Ian Vermillion and Newman swimming a consideration time of 3:43.

Joplin was 14th in the 200 freestyle relay, with Jackson Mordica, Oliver Bortz, Vermillion and Parker Hinman competing.

Newman was 10th in the 50 freestyle with a consideration time of 24 seconds. 

Also for the Eagles, Vermillion was 13th in the 500 freestyle, while Mordica was 13th in the 100 breaststroke and Glenn finished 15th in the 50 free. 

 

MONETT HIGHLIGHTS

Monett’s Matthew Fillinger finished second in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 backstroke.

The Cubs finished second in the 200 medley relay and sixth in both freestyle relays.
