BOYS GOLF: Satterlee wins Bird Dog invite; Joplin, Carl Junction, Carthage, Webb City all finish in top 5

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Harry Satterlee captured medalist honors and led Joplin to a runner-up finish at the Bird Dog Invitational boys golf tournament on Monday at Briarbrook Golf Course.

Ozark claimed the team championship with a four-person score of 313. Joplin finished second with a 319. Carl Junction (321), Carthage (323) and Webb City (323) rounded out the top five teams. There were 17 squads in attendance.

Just a sophomore, Satterlee carded a 2-under-par 70 to claim the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Satterlee shot a 37 on the front nine and a 33 on the back nine. 

Monett’s Jaxon Bailey was the runner-up with a 1-under-par 71, while Carthage’s Max Templeman finished third with an even-par 72. 

Neosho’s Kytn Francisco took fourth with a 73, while Republic’s Cason Bekemeier and Ozark’s Kyler Smith turned in scores of 74. 

Republic’s Griffin Frey finished eighth with a 76, while Webb City’s Braxten Cahoon and Carl Junction’s Noah Williams both carded 77. 

Neosho’s Xander Woodward shot 78, Nevada’s Owen Swearingen and Joplin’s Hobbs Campbell both carded 79 to round out the top 13. 

Carl Junction’s Jack Spencer and Zach Wrensch, Webb City’s Keegon Dill and Josh Howard and Frontenac’s Vinny Pile all carded 80.

Also for the Eagles, Wyatt Satterlee carded 84 and Ian Surbrugg turned in an 86. 

Eli Olson was Seneca’s top performer with an 87, McAuley Catholic was led by Evan D’Amour’s 88 and Jack Tyrrell led Thomas Jefferson with a 97.

For the area’s large schools, the tourney acted as a final tune-up before next Monday’s Central Ozark Conference tournament in Branson.
