CROSS COUNTRY: Area athletes fare well at Monett invite

Monett High School hosted the Richard “Whitey” Mettlach Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday at South Park.

There were large school and small school divisions. A look at local results is below. 

 

CLASS 4-5 BOYS

Carthage won the Class 4-5 division with a team score of 32. Neosho was second with 34. 

Neosho’s Kaden Cole was the individual champion in the division, as the senior crossed the line at 17 minutes, 16 seconds. 

Rounding out the top five were Monett’s Julio Cruz (18:08), Carthage’s Mariques Strickland (18:45) and Miquel Solano (19:11) and Carl Junction’s Jack Lawson (19:22). 

The rest of the top 10 were Carthage’s Joseph Wyrick, Neosho’s Gabriel Mabrey and Harry Slinkard, Carthage’s Eddy Fuentes and Neosho’s Carson Newell. 

 

CLASS 4-5 GIRLS 

In the varsity girls Class 4-5 division, Carl Junction (31), Neosho (38) and Carthage (76) were the top three teams. 

Carthage’s Maggie Boyd won the race in 22:04, while Neosho’s duo of Riley Kemna (22:37) and Chloe Wood (22:46) were second and third, respectively. 

Carl Junction’s Hannah Franks, Alexis Carpenter, Alanza Montez and Sadie Burchett finished fourth through seventh, respectively. 

Rounding out the top 10 were Neosho’s Bailey Miller, Carl Junction’s Delaney Harris and Carthage’s Katelyn Witherspoon. 

 

CLASS 1-3 BOYS

The top three teams were Lamar (29), Blue Eye (41) and Cassville (69).

Blue Eye’s Ryan Cardenzana took first in 17:27 and Thomas Jefferson’s Kip Atteberry was the runner-up in 19:00. 

The rest of the top 10 were Purdy’s Bryce Ozbun, Lamar’s Blaine Breshears, Blue Eye’s Jadon Weaver, Lamar’s Cameron Bailey, Quintin Webb and Pierce Heins, Aurora Christian Academy’s Edward Clark and Cassville’s Caleb Leach. 

College Heights’ Caleb Quade took 16th. 

 

CLASS 1-3 GIRLS 

College Heights finished fourth in the standings with 73 points. The top three teams were Cassville (30), Clever (66) and Blue Eye (71). 

Blue Eye’s Riley Arnold was the individual champ with a time of 21:25. 

Aurora’s Kaci Singer (21:49), Lamar’s Kiersten Potter (22:59) and Cassville’s duo of Annie Moore (23:07) and Jolie Evans (23:27) were third, fourth and fifth. 

College Heights’ Jayli Johnson finished ninth, while Thomas Jefferson’s Macie Shifferd and Sarah Mueller finished 17th and 18th, respectively. 

College Heights’ Madelynn Jordan, Sophia Moore and Madi Carson were 23rd, 24th and 25th, respectively.
