PREP BASEBALL: Webb City wins a pair in Marshfield, Cards improve to 18-5

MARSHFIELD, Mo.  Webb City hiked its record to 18-5 by recording a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday at Marshfield High School.

Webb City defeated Ste. Genevieve 11-6 and the Cardinals topped the host Blue Jays 10-8 in 11 innings.

 

WEBB CITY 11, STE. GENEVIEVE 6

The Cardinals took control early by scoring three runs in the first inning. A four-run fourth and a three-run fifth allowed Webb City to break the game open.

Cole Gayman had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI.

Shane Noel, Eli Goddard and Aiden Brock all had two hits apiece in Webb City’s 11-hit attack.

Matt Woodmansee and Brantley Carter drove in two runs apiece. Noel scored four runs and Treghan Parker crossed home twice.

Kaylor Darnell pitched three innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three.

Cooper Crouch pitched three innings, striking out three and giving up one run on one hit. 

Jeremiah Leaming tossed one inning and surrendered three runs.

 

WEBB CITY 10, MARSHFIELD 8

Webb City plated five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead, but the Blue Jays tied it up in the bottom half to force extra innings.

Both teams pushed across a single tally in the eighth before going scoreless in the ninth and 10th frames. 

Webb City scored twice in the 11th. Parker and Noel walked and moved up on a wild pitch before Woodmansee delivered a sac fly to right. Another run came home on an error after Gayman sacrificed.

Noel kept the Blue Jays off the scoreboard in the bottom of the 11th to secure the win. 

Devrin Weathers drove in three runs on two hits, including a double, while Gayman had two hits and two RBI.

Parker homered and scored three runs, while Noel and Eric Fitch crossed home two times apiece.

Noah Mitchell went three innings on the mound, allowing four runs while striking out four.

Goddard and Noel tossed four innings apiece. Goddard struck out five and allowed one earned run. Noel fanned six and did not allow an earned run.

Marshfield’s Jackson Rovig went six innings and gave up two runs and struck out six. 

Logan Crum had four hits for Mashfield, while Jackson Vestal had three hits.

Winners of four straight games, Class 5 No. 2 Webb City hosts Neosho at 4:30 on Tuesday in Central Ozark Conference action at Chuck Barnes Field.
