HOLLISTER, Mo. — Seneca’s postseason run came to an end on Tuesday night, as the Hollister Tigers earned a 4-2 win over the Indians in a sectional contest of the Class 4 state baseball tournament.

Hollister (24-5) meets Springfield Catholic (24-5) in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Seneca ends the season at 16-12.

Hollister plated two runs in the first inning on three hits and three Seneca errors.

Leadoff batter Blake Russell singled, took second on an error and then went to third on another Seneca miscue. Konner Hatfield recorded an RBI triple and later scored on an error.

The score held up until the fifth, when the Tigers added two insurance runs to go up 4-0.

The Indians finally broke through in the sixth, cutting their deficit in half.

With one out, Lucas Marrs was hit by a pitch before Austin Furgerson doubled to center.

Marrs scored on Sebastian Middick’s RBI groundout before Titus Atkins delivered a run-scoring single to center, trimming his team’s deficit to 4-2.

But Seneca was unable to rally in the seventh.

Lance Stephens started for the Indians and took the loss. He gave up three earned runs on six hits while striking out two. Atkins pitched the final two innings and did not allow an earned run.

The Indians were limited to five hits, one apiece by Furgerson, Middick, Atkins, Conner Ackerson and Tanner Nesvold.

Hollister’s Clay Kemp was the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six.

Sam Teaster, Russell and Hatfield had two hits apiece for the Tigers, while Landon Richards drove in two runs.

Springfield Catholic defeated St. Clair 4-2 to advance.
