PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Neosho tops Cassville, College Heights falls to Miller

PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP

NEOSHO 9, CASSVILLE 1

NEOSHO, Mo. — Neosho scored three times in the first inning and hung crooked numbers on the scoreboard three more times on the way to the win over Cassville on Monday.

Neosho’s three-run first inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Wyatt Keplar and Chase Flynn. 

Flynn added an RBI single in the third before Keplar followed with a bases-loaded walk to make the score 5-0. 

After Neosho crossed home twice in the fifth, Eli Zar notched a two-run single to left-center for a 9-1 lead in the sixth inning.

Lane Yost earned the win on the mound after limiting Cassville to one run on five hits, two walks and nine strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Devin Bailey took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits, three walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Flynn had three hits, two RBI and scored a run to lead Neosho. Kepler doubled for one of his two hits and scored a team-high three runs to go along with an RBI. Brett Slavens was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Neosho (2-12) is at Republic on Tuesday.

 

MILLER 4, COLLEGE HEIGHTS 2

In a game played at Joe Becker Stadium on Monday, Miller scored twice in the second and once in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-0 lead. 

The Cougars plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut their deficit in half.

College Heights was limited to five hits in the game, as Nathan Williams went 2-for-3, while Rolen Sanderson, Benjamin Thomas and Joshua Allen all had singles. 

Thomas went five innings on the mound, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out two. Nicholas Brueggemann and Williams threw one inning apiece in relief for College Heights.

Miller’s Logan Adams went 5 1/3 innings, striking out nine and allowing two runs on four hits. Garrett Stewart struck out two in 1 2/3 of relief.

Jeffrey Lung went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals. 

Down 4-0, the Cougars rallied in the sixth.

Thomas singled to center and came home on Allen’s RBI single to left. Williams singled to center before Allen scored on a fielder’s choice. College Heights was unable to do further damage in the sixth and the hosts failed to score in the seventh. 

College Heights (3-4) plays at Providence Academy on Tuesday.
