PREP BASEBALL: Joplin strikes early, often in win over Glendale

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Striking early and often, the Joplin Eagles did all of their damage in the first three innings in a 9-2 non-conference prep baseball victory over the Glendale Falcons on Monday.

In a game that was played at Springfield Central, Joplin (16-10) scored twice in the first, five times in the second and twice in the third. 

Bodee Carlson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Eagles, while Justin McReynolds went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Kohl Cooper and David Fiscus drove in two runs apiece, while Fielding Campbell and Carson Wampler both scored a pair of runs.

Joplin’s Ethan Guilford was the winning pitcher. He went the distance and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three. 

Glendale’s Spencer Pottebaum took the loss after surrendering six earned runs on seven hits in two innings. 

Zach Beatty went 3-for-4 for the Falcons, while Brooks Kettering and DJ Cofield had one RBI apiece. 

In the first inning, Campbell singled and came home on Carlson’s run-scoring double to right. Carlson later scored on a Fiscus sacrifice fly. 

The Falcons got a run back in the bottom half on Kettering’s RBI double, but the Eagles erupted for five runs in the second.

Carlson delivered a two-run double to center, with Wampler and Kyler Stokes scoring on the play. 

Alex Curry, Fiscus and McReynolds all contributed run-scoring singles later in the frame to give Joplin a seven-run cushion.

Cooper’s two-run single to center made it 9-0 in the third. 

The Falcons received a sac fly from Cofield in the sixth for the final margin. 

Joplin hosts Lamar at 4:30 on Tuesday.
